Ohlendorf was one of the many grandchildren of German emigrants Conrad Christoph Carl and Ernestine Wilhelmine (Minna) Giesecke Ohlendorf. Carl and Jennette Korff Ohlendorf's farm is just across a small country road from his grandparents' and the Ohlendorf Cemetery. Carl and Minna's house has been moved to the Lockhart Embassy just south of the city of Lockhart. 2) Mai is the German word for May 3) Carl J. Ohlendorf's record shows the year of birth as 1845. 4) Boesel, Agnes nee Schlick, daughter of Eduard August and Auguste Elwine Giesecke Schlick, was the youngest emigrant of the Giesecke entourage to survive passage to Texas in 1846. Brothers Richard and Friedrich Albert survived the trip, but an unnamed sister died at sea. 5) The name varies. H. Roeder, her nephew by marriage, referred to her as Elwine Auguste (eulogy, New Braunfelser Zeitung, May 5, 1904) as did Carl J. Ohlendorf and CCCR documentation. In two forms of the tree (one by Gerry Ohlendorf), she is listed as Auguste Elwine Giesecke Schlick. (Auguste if pronounced Augusta.) 6) Elwine Auguste Giesecke Schlick, the first child of George Christian Friedrich Giesecke and Ernestine Fredericke Stahrenberg Giesecke, is the much older sister of Minna Giesecke Ohlendorf, their tenth child. Auguste Schlick, born at Klausthal on Harz, the Kingdom of Hannover, married Eduard August Schlick on September 25, 1836. Their family joined her parents' emigration to Texas. Their son Friedrich Albert Schlick, a Texas senator was eulogized as the "father of Texas Pasteur Institute." There are extensive records documenting the Giesecke family history in Germany and the story of their emigration to and life in Texas. Apparently, there is considerable documentation on the Internet as well. 7) Carl J. Ohlendorf shows Auguste Elwine's date of birth as March 3. The name order he uses is consistent with other family tree material, but not the date. March the 30 is the date given in tree information, in the eulogy of H. Roeder, her nephew by marriage, who wrote that Elwine Auguste was born on March 30 (New Braunfelser Zeitung, May 5, 1904), and in CCCR documentation. 8) Marz is the German word for March. 9) Agnes von Roeder Sorrels may have the story on the family name in her work. The von Roeder family came to Texas from Germany as von Roeders but they had preetty much dropped the von--which refers to nobility--until some time in the 20th century when an inheritance from Germany was theirs only if they resumed using the title. 10) son of Hermann and Emillie (Emmy) Ohlendorf von Roeder. 11) son of Hermann and Emillie (Emmy) Ohlendorf von Roeder. 12) Carl Ohlendorf's record gives July as the month of death. 13) first wife of Richard von Roeder. 14) second wife of Richard von Roeder 15) Daughter of Hermann and Emilie (Emmy) Ohlendorf von Roeder, Ida married Alfons Wranitzky, 4 August 1909, and died inchildbirth iher grandparents' home. 16) daughter of Albert and Anna Boesel Ohlendorf 17) Referred to in family papers as Johanne Catharina Niens Ohlendorf and by grandchildren as the Stuhlgrossmutter, the widowed mother of Carl Ohlendorf, second wife to widower Johann Joachim Heinrich Christian Ohlendorf, came with her only surviving children--two daughters Marie Louise Ohlendorf Rothermel and Auguste Ohlendorf Mackensen and their younger half-brother Friedrich Niens. 18) Carl Ohlendorf emigrated to Texas in 1845 and served in campaigns against Mexico. Later, he was able to send his mother money for her and his siblings to join him in Texas. Although that makes it look as though his was a small family, counting half and full brothers and sisters, he was one of 19 children. See footnote 27. 19) Minna Giesecke, one of eleven children, migrated to Texas with her family in 1846, married Carl Ohlendorf Feb. 23, 1856. 20) daughter of Kurt and Melba Ohlendorf 21) die Tochter is the German for daughter, der Sohn for son. 22) J. And A. Ohlendorf: J. Stands for Julius, the oldest son of Carl and Minna Ohlendorf; the A., his wife Auguste von Bieberstein Ohlendorf. 23) first wife of Carl Windwehen, Mary Windwehen Boesel's brother 24) Caroline von Hinber, the daughter of Friedrich Ernst, the founder of the Texas German colony, was widowed three times. First, she married Ludwig von Roeder who died young; then she married his brother Sigismund. Hermann--Emilie Ohlendorf's husband--was Caroline's son by that second marriage. (More information is available in her granddaughter Agnes von Roeder Sorrels' work housed in the Caldwell County Historical Collection in Luling.) 25) Rosalie and her mother, Caroline Von Hinber, lived with the Hermann Roeders. 26) The Boesels--Giesecke descendants--Martha Boesel Schucany, Paul Boesel, Mathilde (Mattie) Boesel Ohlendorf, Anna Boesel Ohlendorf, and Frieda Helene Boesel von Roeder were siblings. Mattie and Anna married brothers Hermann and Albert, and Frieda Helene married Hermann and Albert's oldest nephew, Richard. 27) Twins: Martha Boesell Schucany's sister Anna had twin girls Ellie and Irma. Her sister Matties' grandson Roy Schuetzeberg had twin sons. Apparently, twins ran both in the Giesecke and Ohlendorf lines. Each of Conrad Christoph Carl Ohlendorf's father Johann Joachim Heinrich Christian Ohlendorf's two wives gave birth to two sets of twins. The ony surviving twin of the eight was Carl's full sister, Marie Louise Oholendorf Rothermel. So when Anna and Mattie married Carl's sons, the wonder was that there weren't more twins.
