It occured to me recently that my Grandmother Ruth YOUNG made some recordings about early life in Caldwell County, Fentress, Tx to be exact. I seem to recollect that the Clarke Library may have produced them. I have tried to locate them on the internet or find an email address but have failed in the attempt. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. David Carter -- dcarter@kvue.com

Trying to find information on a JARRELL family that lived in Caldwell County, but must have been very close to San Marcos. I think Martindale was mentioned on the San Marcos River. They were in Caldwell County's Census in 1870 and a member of the Masonic Lodge until about 1875. Then they were listed in Coryell County, Texas Census in 1880 where they had moved in the late 1870s. How would I find out where their land was in Caldwell Co. Thanks, Jackie Morgan

This is my last ditch effort to learn something about my husband's grandfather and of his children and their families. His name was Robert Samuel GUTHRIE, called Sam, and he traveled with his GUTHRIE & FRANKS kin to Caldwell County, TX, in 1889. He was only 15 years old at that time. He m. Miss Carrie Bammer "ALEXANDER", called Carrie, at age 21, in 1895, marriage conducted by Uncle Tom McCARLEY,[ who was married to two different related FRANKS girls; as well as being the pastor marrying many, many couples of that time period]. I am referring to the many children of Oliver FRANKS & his wife, Cynthia "GANN" FRANKS, who also made the trip to Caldwell County in 1889. There are many, many FRANKS kin still living in Caldwell County & would LOVE to hear from them. Sam became blind very early in life & my father-in-law, very small at the time, had the responsibility to make sure that his dad did not bump into any thing & do himself bodily harm. Sam got very sick, of what, we do not know, & the family was taken to Troup, TX, so Sam could be taken care of by his youngest brother, Prof. Jesse Denton GUTHRIE. Sam died while under Jesse's fine care. Carrie's brother, Dr. Keeton/Keaton ALEXANDER traveled to Troup with the wagon to bring the family back to Caldwell County. Their children that lived to adulthood were: 1. Lewis Franklin GUTHRIE, called Lewis, b. in 1897, never married, died in an asylum because of a very serious head injury inflicted upon him by a very mean & wicked man, with several blows using his ax handle, I will not mention his name. Lewis had very serious seizures all of his life because of that vicious attack. Naturally he never married, d. in 1982; 2. Arthur Wiley GUTHRIE, called Art, b. in 1899, my father-in-law, a hard working boy while in Caldwell County, but ran away soon after he witnessed Lewis being beaten half to death. He figured he would be next! He made his way to Izard County, AR, where most of his father's kin lived prior to traveling to Caldwell County & after they had returned to Izard County. Art died in 1983. 3. Ruby Alzora GUTHRIE, b. 1901, called Ruby, remained with her mother & her mother's 2nd husband, James Pruitt HELLUMS, Jr, until she m. in 1922 in Lockhart to Thomas T. DAVIS, called Tom. Ruby d. in 1996 in Lockhart, Tom died sometime after that, but I do not have his death date. Their children were: (1) Thomas Morgan DAVIS; (2) Edna Mae DAVIS, m. an ALEXANDER; (3) Barbara Jean DAVIS, m. a JONES; (4) Bobby Joe DAVIS; (5) Carrie Lavada DAVIS, m. a SMITH. I know nothing more about these children or their descendants. If anyone reading this does know how to get in touch with one or all of them, I would appreciate very much any information. 4. Altha Annie GUTHRIE, called Althea, b. 1905, remained with her mother & her 2nd husband, until she m. Ollie Lee PRUITT, Sr, [don't have date]. Altha d. in 1997, Ollie d. in 1959. I talked to Althea many times & we corresponded, but the phone calls & letters made her nervous, so she was not able to relay much information to me thru that period of time in her elder years. Their children were: (1) Frances Lee PRUITT, died young; (2) Ollie Lee PRUITT, Jr, he did marry but do not know his wife's name; but he had a son named Ollie PRUITT III & Sheryl Lynn PRUITT, who m. Ronald James WEST; & if I understand correctly, Athea raised Sheryl; (3) Dorothy Nell PRUITT, m. Marvin SANDLER & I do understand that they still live in Lockhart, but Dorothy doesn't like to write letters, bless her heart. They had children: (1) Marla Sue SANDLER, m. Wayne STEWART; (2) Lora Gayle SANDLER m. Kelly THOMPSON; & (3) Rhonda Gay SANDLER, m. Floyd WILHELM, Jr. (4) Betty Geneva PRUITT, m. Baldwin FEHLIS. I believe that they had children but I do not know their names. If anyone reading this can help me in any way, I would be very appreciative of any information they are willing to share. This family was not included in the 'Historical Caldwell County' publication of a few years ago & I have no idea why they were left out. I am in the final stages of preparing the 'FRANKS-GUTHRIE Ancestry' for publication & I truly would love to be able to include this family in my writings which would hopefully include much more information than I have been able to obtain on the descendants of Robert Samuel GUTHRIE & Carrie Bammer ALEXANDER. I am very aware of her ancestry, so I do not need any help on her line. Thank you for taking the time to read my plea for help. I would love & appreciate hearing from you. Cheers! Rosie Guthrie. You may contact me at rguthrie@oecadvantage.net

LEONARD Family- Thomas F. and Elizabeth Leonard came to Caldwell County about 1876- probably from Tennessee. Their oldest two children- Mary F.- b.- 1874 and Nettie Josephine - b.- Aug.- 1875- were both born in Tennessee. The remainder of the children were born in Caldwell County. They were- John Thomas - b.- 1878; Henry- b.- 1879; Elizabeth- b.- 1882; Maggie - b.- 1885; Reichlieu L. (Dude)- b.- 1887; Oscar L. - b.- 1891 and Willie Mae - b.- 1894. Thomas F. Leonard's parents were RILEY and Elizabeth Leonard. Their children were Wm. C.; Lemuel H.; Racheal E.; Thomas F. and Margaret. The Riley Leonard family was counted in Lawrence County, Ala. in 1850; and Franklin Co., Ala. in 1860. By 1870, Riley Leonard apparently had already died, as Elizabeth Leonard was counted in Marshall Co., Tenn. with her two youngest children, Thomas F., and Margaret. I believe that Margaret Leonard came to Caldwell County, Tx. with her brother, Thomas F. Leonard and his family, altho I do not know who she married. I know that N. Josephine Leonard married James WEST and lived in Caldwell County. Several of the other siblings moved to Jefferson County, Tx., after they married- including my Grandfather, John T. Leonard. I would appreciate any info that anyone has to share on this Leonard family. I am very interested in knowing the maiden name of Riley's wife and Thomas F.'s wife. I believe that Thomas F.'s wife Elizabeth, was a CRAFT. Hopefully someone will know for sure who she was. I will gladly share the info that I have. Thanks. Joyce A.
