CAMP COUNTY - ROSE HILL CEMETERY MOUNT PLEASANT - Services for Thomas Whitley "Whit" Barnett, 83, of Mount Pleasant, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home Chapel, with Brother Butch Ship officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery of Pittsburg. Arrangements are under the direction of Bates-Cooper-Sloan Funeral Home. Mr. Barnett was born March 15, 1925, in Honey Grove, and he died Thursday, June 5, 2008, in Pittsburg. He was a butcher for 29 years and worked in law enforcement for 22 years. He was a member of Odd Fellows Lodge and Veal Switch Baptist Church in Hughes Springs. Mr. Barnett was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Cox Barnett; son, James Whitley Barnett; father, Rube J. Barnett; mother, Georgie Locke Barnett; and sister, Mary Helen Charles. He is survived by his son, Larry Barnett of Mount Pleasant; daughter, Martha Lou Gibbons of Gilmer; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; significant other, Mary Huddleston of Mount Pleasant; and sister, Rubylee Woodard of Henderson. Pallbearers will be Michael Gibbons, Paul Gibbons, Chet Craig, Jeff Barnett, Marc Barnett and Steven Gibbons. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Hull and Charley Charles.
