An Old Settler Passes Away, Pittsburg Gazette, Jan. 21, 1910.

The death of Mr. George Robert Hill occurred Saturday morning at the home of his 
son-in-law, Mr. J. L. Garrett, on Hill Avenue. Though Mr. Hill had been in feeble 
health for several years he was confined to his bed only two weeks before his death. 

Funeral services were conducted at the residence Sunday morning by Rev. E. P. West 
and the burial at the city cemetery.

Mr. Hill was one of the oldest citizens of Pittsburg. He was 86 years old and came 
here in 1865 from Clark County, Ark. He was born in Morgan County, Georgia. Served 
in the civil war. He farmed in Camp County upon his arrival from Arkansas and later 
followed the mercantile business. 

Mr. Hill was married twice, his first wife having died in 1866. Six children survive 
him, - J. W. Hill, Mrs. E. B. Aldredge, Mrs. H. E. Davis, and Mrs. J. L. Garrett, all 
of Pittsburg, Mrs. M. A. Highly of Oak Hill, Fla., and W. L. Hill of Dalby Springs. 

Mr. Hill was a member of the Baptist church, having joined in 1872. He was a man who 
had the confidence and esteem of everybody. Though shut in from the scenes of active 
life for many years, at heart he lost none of his interest for the public's welfare 
and the good of mankind. He was open hearted and generous to everybody, both in word 
and thought, a man whose sense of right and justice could never be questioned.
