My Dad, Vernon, left Texas with his family for California in 1943. He traveled by pickup truck with his first cousin John Allen Lilley and his family. Dad and Mom settled in Torrance, California.  His last child was born in California, his “prune picker", as he so fondly called her. His other 
children were born on the Lilley Farm, Hughes Springs, Texas, and were his "Cotton Pickers". 
The family's first home was an abandoned trolley car at the Torrance Train Station "Depot". 
The train station today is a very popular restaurant.
