Native of county passes at Wichita

Funeral services for Mrs. Vernie Miles Chapman, 81, a former
postmistress at Jolly, were held on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m. from the
Owens and Brumley Funeral Home Chapel in Wichita Falls.
Dr. William Wright, pastor of the First Christian Church in Wichita, and
Rev. Don McKenzie, pastor of the Highland Heights Christian Church in
Wichita, officiated.
Pallbearers were Jerry McGee, Freddy Bumgarner, W. Wright, Wayne Horton,
Erwin Anderson and Terry Huff.
Mrs. Chapman passed away Sunday in a Wichita hospital. She was born on
Dec. 11, 1886 in Clay County and had served as postmistress at Jolly for
ten years.
Survivors include a daughter, Miss Virginia Chapman of Wichita; two
sisters, Mrs. J.G. Leonard of Wichita and Mrs. Ollie Parsons of Bowie; a
brother, Homer Hatfield of Wichita; four grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
