ELVIN LOUDERMILK

Elvin Loudermilk, 66, De Leon resident for the past ten years, died at 12:45 o’clock Tuesday morning, October 18, in the De Leon Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Loudermilk were held at 3:00 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, October 19, in the De Leon Funeral Home Chapel, with Payne Hattox officiating.

Burial was in the Downing Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Hezzie Dean, Don Loudermilk, Curtis Lesley, Franklin Loudermilk, Edward Ellison and Phillip Ellison.

Mr. Loudermilk, son of the late F. V. and Mattie Loudermilk, was born November 22, 1916, in Comanche county. He was a retired driver for Merchants Freight, a veteran of World War II, and a member of the Church of Christ.

He is survived by a son, Lee Walter Loudermilk of Dublin; two daughters, Edna and Gail Loudermilk, both of Dublin; and a sister, Oma Mae Ellison of Dublin.

ETTA MILDRED LOUDERMILK

Etta M. Loudermilk, 78, of Comanche passed away at Western Hills Nursing Home at 3:15 p.m. Friday, August 8, 1995.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 20, in the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel with interment in Downing Cemetery.

Mrs. Loudermilk was born in Comanche to William C. Reed and Mary Norwood Reed. On August 8, 1936 she married Leldon Loudermilk in Comanche. He preceded her in death on January 20, 1994.

She was a lifelong resident of Comanche County and a housewife.

Survivors are two sons, Weldon Loudermilk of Hassee, and Dalton Loudermilk of Pavillion, WY, two daughters, Glenda Thomas of Amarillo, and Faye King of Herford.

Two sisters, Susie Woolsey and Eva King, both of Comanche. One brother, George Reed of Sidney, 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

FRANKLIN HARDY LOUDERMILK

Franklin Hardy Loudermilk, 62, a farmer and rancher, and U.S. Army veteran, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at his residence.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday at De Leon Church of Christ. Burial: Downing Cemetery. Minister: A. C. Morris, assisted by Kris Groda.

Franklin Hardy Loudermilk was born Nov. 16, 1938, in Gorman, to the late George Hardy Loudermilk and Oma Catherine Scott, and had resided in the De Leon/Downing area all his life. He married Patricia (Pat) Parker, May 18, 1968, in De Leon. He was a member of De Leon Church of Christ.

GEORGE MARTIN LOUDERMILK

George Martin Loudermilk, 83, of Arlington, Texas, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2002 at his residence. He was born on August 29, 1919 at Downing, Texas to the late O.A. Loudermilk and Dixie Marie Hanson Loudermilk. He was married to Elsie Powell on August 2, 1940, in Brownwood, Texas. He retired after 38 years with General Dynamics Aerospace Corporation where he served as vice-president of operations. He had resided in Arlington for 16 years, coming from San Diego, California. He was a member of Black Mountain Church of Christ in San Diego.

Funeral services were on Thursday, October 24, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel with burial at the Downing Cemetery. Kris Groda officiated. Nowlin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors are his wife, Elsie Loudermilk of Arlington; two sons, Robert Loudermilk of Arlington; and Ronald Gail Loudermilk of Albuquerque, New Mexico; one daughter, Linda Carole Johnson of San Diego, California; two step-brothers, Lewis Monroe and Gene Monroe, both of Fort Worth, Texas; 4 grandchildren, Nicholas and Erika Johnson of San Diego, California; and Lauren and Daniel Loudermilk of Arlington. He was preceded in death by one step-brother LeRoy Monroe and one sister Ina Mae Smith.

GEORGIE JACKSON LOUDERMILK

Georgie Jackson Loudermilk, 73, of De Leon died Sunday, February 19, 1978, at 7:15 p.m. in the De Leon Hospital following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Loudermilk was born June 11, 1904, in Downing to the late Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Loudermilk. He married Annie Bell Colcleasure in 1934 and she preceded him in death in 1946. In 1952 he married Beuna Simpson, who preceded him in death in 1972. Mr. Loudermilk was a farmer and a member of the Church of Christ.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 21, 1978, at 10:30 a.m. in the Downing Church of Christ with Brother Jimmy Cantwell, Brownwood, officiating. Burial was in the Downing Cemetery under the direction of Nowlin Funeral Home.

Music was arranged by Homer Hafford, C. L. Mohon, Jr., Al Strassner, and Pearl Spruill.

Pallbearers were John Deene Scott, H. C. Dean, Don Loudermilk, Franklin Loudermilk, Bud Morrison and Lester Wilson.

Survivors include nieces and nephews: Edith Torres of California, Maye Ellison of Garland, E. W. Loudermilk of Whitesboro, Elvin Loudermilk of Abilene, Leldon Loudermilk of Comanche, and Jackie Hamilton of De Leon. Georgie was preceded in death by his parents, one son, five brothers and two sisters.

Gilbert Ray Loudermilk, 61, a retired Century 21 broker, died Friday, 27 Sep 1996 at a Fort Worth hospital.

IMA MELINDA LOUDERMILK

Graveside services for Ima Melinda Loudermilk, 87, of Whitesboro, former De Leon resident were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, November 1, 1988, in the Downing Cemetery. Officiating was Payne Hattox.

Arrangements were by Nowlin Funeral Home, De Leon.

She died Sunday, October 30, in a Whitesboro nursing home.

She was born in Comanche County. She was a homemaker and the widow of William Franklin Loudermilk. She was a member of Downing Church of Christ.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Loudermilk of Whitesboro, two brothers, Claude “Pete” Stark and Robert O. Stark, both of Comanche, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild.

(Fort Worth) - James A. Loudermilk, 79, a retired food broker in Fort Worth for several years, died Wednesday at a Fort Worth nursing center on 17 May, 1995

Graveside service: 2:30 p.m. Friday in Downing Cemetery in Comanche County. Visitation: 6 to 8 tonight at Greenwood Cemetery.

Mr. Loudermilk was born 15 June 1915, in Comanche County. He was a member of Altamesa Church of Christ.

Survivors: Wife of 55 years, Ellen Loudermilk of Fort Worth; son, Jim Loudermilk of Stephenville; daughter, Carole Harville of Fort Worth; sister, Mrs. C. F. (Daphnese) Johnson of Brownwood; six grandsons; and one great-grandson. (Veteran, WW II)

LEE LOUDERMILK

Lee Loudermilk, 82, of De Leon, died at 12:35 a.m. Saturday at De Leon Hospital after a long illness.  Services were at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at De Leon Funeral Home.

Roland Hayes of Farmers Branch Church of Christ officiated, assisted by Payne Hattox, retired Church of Christ minister. Burial was at Downing Cemetery.

Born May 26, 1901, in Comanche county, he married Theone Kennedy April 16, 1938, in Brown County.  He was a retired farmer and a member of Downing Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Pope of Coppell; a brother Don Loudermilk of Downing; a sister, Ima Lesley of De Leon; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Curtis Lesley, Royce Lesley, Gilbert Loudermilk, Walter Loudermilk, Wayland Loudermilk, and Gayle Loudermilk.

Music was by the De Leon Church of Christ choir.

MARY F. LOUDERMILK

(Fort Worth)

Mary F. Loudermilk, a homemaker, died Sunday at her Fort Worth home. She was 75. Mary was born 30 Sep 1917 and died 26 Oct 1992.

Graveside service will be at 4 p.m. today, 31 Oct 1992, in Downing Cemetery in the Downing community near De Leon. Nowlin Funeral Home in De Leon is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Loudermilk was born in Gorman and had lived in Fort Worth since 1952. She was a member of Morgan Baptist Church in Morgan and Wedgewood Chapter 756, Order of the Eastern Star.

Her husband, R. Q. Loudermilk, died in 1974.

Survivors: Three sisters, Ruby Bush of De Leon, Mattie Lane of Meridian and Anna Ladd of Dallas.

MINTIE CAROLINE LOUDERMILK

Mrs. W. H. Loudermilk, age 73 years, 11 months and 28 days, passed on about 1:30 a.m. April 25, 1945. Death came very suddenly. She was born April 27, 1871. Her maiden name was Wilson, daughter of Vol and Sarah (Isham) Wilson, pioneers of Comanche County. She was married in 1889 to Walter H. Loudermilk who preceded her in death some six years ago.

Survivors include eight sons and two daughters living, two sons deceased. Surviving are Ewell, H. L. and M. L. Loudermilk of Brownwood, E. V., Lee, Roy, Houston and Don Loudermilk of Downing, and two daughters, Mrs. A. T. Hafford and Mrs. Noble Lesley of Downing. Also, two brothers, Dave and John A. Wilson of Route 1, Comanche, and two sisters, Mrs. Joe Griffith of Santa Anna, and Mrs. J. L. Bishop of Downing.

The funeral service was held at the Little White Church House by the Side of the Road at Downing, known as the Church of Christ, April 26^th at 3 p.m., where she had worshiped for 50 years, conducted by Brother Eubanks of Mercury.

The pallbearers were her nephews, Lofton Bishop, George Hardy, W. F. and G. J. Loudermilk, Lester Wilson and Loyd Boyett. Flowers were carried by her nieces.

LOIS LOUDERMILK

Funeral services for Mrs. Lois Loudermilk, 78, Comanche, were held at 10:30 o’clock Friday morning, September 20, in Comanche Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating were Ministers Dale Scott and Tommy Johnson.

Burial was in Downing Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bobby Winkles, Burl Dean Scott, Bernell Jackson, Thomas E. Moore, Alvin Hafford and Glenn Winkles.

Mrs. Loudermilk died at 5:30 o’clock Wednesday afternoon, September 18, 1991 in De Leon Hospital.

Daughter of the late W. L. and Lou Weatherby Winkles, she was born May 4, 1913 in Comanche County. She married Verteree Edward Loudermilk on November 10, 1935 in De Leon.  He preceded her in death April 20, 1972.

Mrs. Loudermilk was a member of Pearl Street Church of Christ, and had been a long time employee of Durham Peanuts and Gold Kist Peanuts.

Mrs. Loudermilk is survived by a daughter Darlene Loudermilk of Comanche; 2 brothers, Billie Winkles of Dublin and W. C. (Dub) Winkles of Weatherford; and a sister, Mae Bell Scott of De Leon.

MAUDE LYNN LOUDERMILK

Mrs. Maude Loudermilk, 80, died at 7:30 a.m. today at a local hospital. Graveside services are to be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Downing Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Redden officiating.

Born Feb 15, 1896 in Bastrop County, she married Vol Loudermilk Dec 22, 1910 in Comanche, Texas. She died 13 June 1975.

Survivors include 5 daughters, Mrs. Iva Edwards of Comanche, Mrs. F. Frost of El Paso, Mrs. Oleta Matthews, Mrs. Ola Mae Michael and Mrs. Lauren LaFrosse, all of Fort Worth; two sisters, Mrs. Lura Garner and Mrs. Bryant Looney of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Born May 15, 1889, in Downing, he was a retired trucker and a member of the Church of Christ. He had lived in Caldwell for the past 25 years and in Comanche County before that. He married Vader Baccus Feb. 15, 1945, in Comanche County.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Sherman of Los Angeles, Calif., and Hardy of San Antonio; three sisters, Berta Jenkins of Brownwood, Kathryn Scott of Downing, and Mrs. Cecil Sneed of Comanche; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

NATHILEE LOUDERMILK

Nathilee Loudermilk passed away November 12, 2000 at the De Leon Nursing Home. She was 84.

Funeral services were held November 14, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at the De Leon Church of Christ with J. F. Lilly officiating and assisted by Glenn Boyd. Burial is in the Downing Cemetery. Pallbearers were Royce Lesley, Curtis Lesley, Johnny Scott, Walter Loudermilk, Gary Loudermilk and Frank Pope.

She was born May 5, 1916 in Downing, Texas to the late William Boyd and Beulah Beaty Boyd. She married Don Loudermilk on October 7, 1933 in De Leon, Texas. She was a homemaker, lifelong resident of De Leon/Downing area and a member of the Downing Church of Christ.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Freda and Gerald VanZandt of De Leon; two grandchildren, Bart VanZandt and Bubba VanZandt; three great-grandchildren, Dusty, Brit and Baily VanZandt.

Mrs. Loudermilk was preceded in death by her husband, Don Loudermilk, November 13, 1994 and one brother, G. O. Boyd.

NEVA MAE LOUDERMILK

(Fort Worth)   Neva Mae Loudermilk, 78, died Saturday, December 22, 1990, in Fort Worth. 

Funeral services for Mrs. Loudermilk were held at 3:00 o’clock Monday afternoon, December 24, in De Leon at the Nowlin Funeral Home.  Officiating was Minister Payne Hattox. Burial was in the Downing Cemetery.

Mrs. Loudermilk was born in Comanche County, Texas (to Bob & Lillie Carter Hendrix). She was a housewife and member of the Downing Church of Christ. She was the widow of Roy Loudermilk.

Survivors include two sons, Gilbert Ray Loudermilk of Burleson and Walter Bob Loudermilk of Stephenville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Curtis Lesley, Dulan Hendrix, Franklin Loudermilk, Gayle Loudermilk; Gerald Van Zandt, and Gary Loudermilk.

Music was by the De Leon Church of Christ arranged by Fred Holdridge.

O. A. LOUDERMILK

(Funeral Services for Winters Man to be Held Today) - 1929

Funeral services will be conducted today for A. A. Loudermilk who died suddenly at the family residence west of Winters Wednesday afternoon. Death was due to organic heart trouble. The funeral service and interment will be at Downing, near Comanche, the remains having been conveyed overland there yesterday.

Although death came suddenly, the deceased had been in ill health for a number of years. He moved with his family here about one year ago from Comanche, where he resided for a number of years. While in this vicinity he won many friends who join the Enterprise in extending sympathies to the bereaved.

Mrs. Loudermilk is a teacher in the Cochran School.

The deceased is survived by his wife and one son; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Loudermilk of Comanche, and eight brothers and two sisters, all of whom will be present for the funeral service today.

A number of relatives were called here to accompany the remains to Downing.

OMA LENA GARNER LOUDERMILK HENDERSON

Oma Lena Loudermilk Henderson, age 98 of Santa Anna, Texas, died Thursday, April 8, 1999 in Santa Anna, Texas.

She was born December 18, 1900 in Blanket, Texas to George W. and Florida Texas Baxter Garner, both deceased. Mrs. Henderson was married to Earney V. Loudermilk June 12, 1920 in Comanche County, Texas. He preceded her in death on April 18, 1964. She later married Cecil Henderson on September 1, 1968. He preceded her in death on August 22, 1977.  She was a teacher and had taught in Comanche County and originally received her teaching credentials from North Texas Teachers College in 1918. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. She had previously resided in Downing, De Leon and Fort Worth.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 1999 at the De Leon Church of Christ. Burial followed in the Downing Cemetery. Minister A. C. Morris officiated with Nowlin Funeral Home in charge.

Pallbearers were Royce Lesley, Curtis Lesley, Franklin Loudermilk, Johnny Scott, Gerald VanZandt, and David Phillips.

Roy Lee Loudermilk, 66, Goldthwaite, member of a widely known Comanche County family, died Sunday, October 2, 1988 in a Goldthwaite hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Loudermilk were held at 2:00 o’clock Tuesday afternoon, October 4, at Stacy-Wilkins Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating was Minister Jack Ruth.

Burial was in the Downing Cemetery, Comanche County, Texas.

Mr. Loudermilk was born in Comanche, Texas 19 January 1922, and was a member of the Church of Christ. He retired from Mrs. Baird’s Bakeries. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a son, Larry Loudermilk of Houston; a daughter, Crystal Phillips of Mullin; his mother Oma Loudermilk of Fort Worth; a brother Gayle Loudermilk of Fort Worth; a sister, Aline Jones of Fort Worth; a stepson, Gary Partin of Nacogdoches; and 10 grandchildren.

Services for R.Q. Loudermilk, 63, of Fort Worth, will be at 2 p.m. today at Downing Cemetery. Rev. Johnny Burleson will officiate.

Mr. Loudermilk died at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, and died Feb 2, 1974 in a Fort Worth hospital.

He was born Sept 30, 1910 in Comanche County and was a retired Bell Helicopter employee, and served in the Army in World War II. He was married to Mary Miers March 5, 1938, in De Leon.

Survivors include his wife, and a brother, Henry Loudermilk of Hico.

Theone K. Loudermilk, 87, a former De Leon resident, died Thursday April 15, 2004 at a Carrollton nursing center.

Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday at Nowlin Funeral Home. Burial: Downing Cemetery.

Survivors: Daughter, Betty and Frank Pope; grandsons, Mark and Kay Pope and Mike and Charlotte Pope; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Travis and Ovie Kennedy; sister, Nina Beth Martines; and a host of nieces , nephews and friends.

THEONE KENNEDY LOUDERMILK

Theone K. Loudermilk, age 87, of De Leon, Texas passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2004 at Brookhaven Nursing Center, Carrollton, Texas.

She was born on February 8, 1917 in Comanche County, Texas to the late William Oliver Kennedy and Cora Boyd Kennedy.

She was a homemaker and a retired employee of Durham Peanut Company and Comanche Manufacturing. She was a member of Downing Church of Christ.

She was united in marriage to Lee (Mack) Loudermilk on April 7, 1938 in Comanche County, Texas.

Survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Frank Pope of Coppell; two grandsons and their wives, Mark and Kay Pope of The Colony; and Mike and Charlotte Pope of Coppell; seven great-grandchildren, Rebekah Pope, Aimee Smith and husband Eric, Amanda Pope, Jeff Pope, Andrew Pope, Chelsea Pope, and Chase Pope; brother and sister-in-law, Travis and Ovie Kennedy of Clifton, one sister Nina Beth Martines of De Leon and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, M.D. Kennedy and one sister, Ruby Eliff.

Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2004 at Nowlin Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. J.F. Lilly, grandsons, Mark Pope and Mike Pope officiating. Burial followed in the Downing Cemetery with Nowlin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers: Curtis Lesley, Steve Martines, Gerald Van Zandt, Gary Loudermilk, Royce Lesley, Walter Loudermilk, John Scott and Gayle Loudermilk. Honorary pallbearers were great-grandsons, Andrew Pope, Chase Pope, Danny Massaro, Jeff Pope and Eric Smith.

Mr. Loudermilk was a pioneer farmer and had operated a mercantile business at Downing since 1900. He was a devoted, loving father and companion, a faithful and consistent member of the Church of Christ some 50 years. He lived and died at peace with man and God, surely he has gained an abundant entrance into that place prepared for the faithful. His remains were laid to rest at Downing Cemetery 3:00 o’clock p.m., Friday, April 21, 1939. Elder Cantrell of Brownwood officiated.

LETTY GRACE MOON

Letty Grace Moon, 96 years, 4 months, and 3 days of age, of Brownwood, Texas passed away on Friday, September 13, 2002 in Brownwood, Texas. She was born April 14, 1906 in Bucklin, MO to the late Isaac Webber and Cora Ellen Coffman Webber. She served as president of Woman’s Club in Des Moines, Iowa, a proof reader in a publishing company, was a member of the De Leon Garden Club, Odessa Poetry Society, Poetry Society of Texas and U.S., International Society of Poets. She was a published poet and a member of De Leon First Christian Church. She was a resident of Brownwood, Texas, coming from Des Moines, Iowa, Odessa, Texas and De Leon, Texas. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Moon was married to the late Jesse M. Moon, Sr. on September 2, 1925 in Chariton, Iowa.
