1.  *JOHN BERNARD SR.1 ROCH was born March 22, 1822 in Roscommon Co., Ireland, and died September 1854 in Taunton, MA.  He married MARY MURREY 1842 in Roscommon Co., Ireland.  She was born 1825 in Roscommon Co., Ireland, and died 1888 in Taunton, MA.

In 1844 Bernard & Mary Roch, parents of John and Edward Roch crossed the A tlantic from Roscommon Co., Ireland to America and settled first in Portla nd, MA. This was just before John Bernard Roch II  was born on March 22, 1 844. Edward Roch was born 2 years later on November 1, 1846.  They lived s everal places in Maine before settling in Taunton, MA.

2.  JOHN BERNARD JR.2 ROCH (*JOHN BERNARD SR.1) was born March 22, 1844 in Portland, Maine, and died November 04, 1902 in Proctor, Comanche, TX.  He married (1) MARY ANN PAULINE MARSHALL 1869 in TX, daughter of BALIS MARSHALL and ELIZABETH FLETCHER.  She was born February 11, 1844 in Arkansas, and died March 19, 1873 in Comanche, Comanche, TX.  He married (2) FANNIE (FRANCES) INDEPENDENCE CARNES December 28, 1873 in Proctor, Comanche, TX, daughter of ED CARNES and ?.  She was born May 22, 1855 in Coryell, Co., Tx, and died September 24, 1918 in Proctor, Comanche, TX.

 

Notes for JOHN BERNARD JR. ROCH:

John and Edward Roch came to Texas from Massachusetts during or shortly af ter the Civil War. John and Edward fought for the north during the Civil W ar. John came to Texas in 1866 and Edward came to Texas in 1869. John w as a Captain in the Union Army during the Civil War and was a member of t he G. A. R.  which stands for the Grand Army of the Republic from 1861 - 1 866. He was known around Comanche Co. as "Capt. Roch". John was a promina te citizen in Comanche Co., and very actively involved in the community af fairs.

 

John's first wife was Mary A. Marshall. They married 1869 and they had t wo boys, Edward Bailey and Tommie. Mary A. died after giving birth to Tomm ie. Tommie was born Feb. 20, 1873 and Mary A. died two months later on Apr il 19,1873. Edward Bailey was 3 years old and Tommie was 2 months old wh en their mother died.

 

Later that same year on Dec. 28, 1873, John married Fannie I. Carnes in Pr octor, Comanche County, Texas. They had eleven children, six boys and fi ve girls. John Bernard Roch had a total of thirteen children. Accordi ng to the book "History Of Texas" and the biography as told by John Berna rd Roch, John and Fannie were parents of these children; Mary who marri ed Walter Holt; Irma wife of Newton Hoover; Ella, twin sister of Irma dece ased; Laura who marriedW. F. Pearsin; twin boys Lee and Grant; Grant is de ceased,Lee married Lorena White; Will(I believe is the same as William Was son) married Claudia Bryant; Kate married T.J. Halloway; James and S am D. Roch. These children had all died at the time of the writing of th is book  Ella, Phil C., Fanny, Grant and Katie.

 

 

 

John Bernard Roch and Fannie I. Carnes Roch are buried at Proctor Cemeta ry at Proctor, TX.

 

Tidbit:

John and Edward once took part in the 1870 Hog Creek indian fight. John w as wounded and almost died.

Notes for MARY ANN PAULINE MARSHALL:

John and Mary A. Marshall Roch had two boys named Edward Baily and Thom as S. "Tommie" before Mary A. died. She was 29 years, 1 month and 8 days o ld. Tommie was 1 month old and Edward B. was 3 years old when Mary A. die d. John then married Francis I. Carnes or Frannie as she was called in t he same year on December 28, 1873.  Edward Bailey Roch ordered the monume nt to his mother Mary A. Marshall-Roch from R. Brookshire who made the hea dstone.

Notes for *MARY ANNA SCOTT:

I have been told that Mary Anna Scott Roch was full blood Native Americ an Indian but to date I have not been able to confirm this (9/4/00). S he is buried at Proctor Cemetary at Proctor, TX.My cousin has heard this a lso and says her indian name was Two Moons. He has a Comanche fried w ho is checking this out along with his research!

 

 

According to a genealogy report on rootsweb.ancestry.com, Elizabeth Celia Jones w as the daughter of an unknown Jones & a 100% Cherokee. It is unknown at th is time whether the Cherokee was her father or her mother and I have not f ound data to document that statement. I have heard for many years that h er daughter, my g-grandmother was part Native American. The Native Americ an blood maybe valid if that report is true.
