Claude Albern Ridenour married Willie May Lauderdale, whose parents were

Cooke County at one time.

Nacogdoches Sketches of Blake papers....about Manuel Walton Loving (M.W.)
left a letter he dictated, sent to A.H. Weir in Sabine Co. Texas, 22 Aug.
1849,
in which he talks about going on a mining trip with Captain W.P. Titus,
up the Wichita,
Washita and Northern Canadian Rivers (Oklahoma) in search of Gold, Lead
and Tin.
He mentions rendevoux back in Cook Co. (letter was sent from Fannin Co.)
at Council Spring.
Also mentions son William Loving to take care of his business until he
returned sometime in November.
They had been up those rivers, but had returned due to Fever among the
"Red Brethern" and White settlers.
He with Captain Titus was going to round up 225 men to return.
I would like to know if anyone else knows of this expedition, and have
more details, also would like to
know the history of Council Spring...if it was a common meeting place.

Hiram had a brother David B. Taylor, which is the line my husband
descends from. The information we have on Hiram and David is:
Whe David was 12, and Hiram was 14, they ran away from home. Their
father, John W., at the age of 66 years had decided to marry a younger
woman of about 33 years. The two brothers didn't like their new mother,
so they left home to explore the new frontier.
Somewhere as they made their way West across the United States, the two
young brothers parted company. David settled in Searcy Co, Arkansas.
Brother Hiram traveled on west to near WHITESBORO, TEXAS. The last
contact with Hiram was made in 1892. Hiram has not been heard from since
that time.
Looking at the map of Texas, Whitesboro appears to be in Cooke County.
David only listed his father's name as John W. Taylor in his military
records of the Civil War. We are hoping to find Hiram Taylor and see if
any of his records can help us trace the parents of these two young men.
(Thus, our search takes us to Cooke Co, TX.)
Any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Looking for information on George Wade McDonald and of his family
(mother, father, etc).
I know he married Addilene Duvalt in Cooke Co
in 1865. They had a son, James William born in 1867, my grandfather. I
have been told George was murdered by a colored man, or a colored man
came and told the family...In the 1860 Cooke Co Census there is a Rainey
McDonald with a son named George, age 18, which would be about right.
James William later moved to Hopkins Co., I don't know if he came with
the family or alone. James had a brother named George Jr., and I have
been told there was a third son, Mel, who disappeared, and no one knowes
any thing about him. Any help would be appreciated.

Haney was born in Cooke County, Texas on August 27th 1892 at Horseshoe
Bend , on the Red River.His Father was James Haney, born in
Texas,location and date unknown.His Mother was Tenny Morrison, born in
Texas, location and date unknown. There were three other children Calvin
Haney, Maud Haney, and Elizabeth (Betty) Haney. It is belived that the
children were all born in Cooke County. There were also tails of James
and his brother Land Haney being cowboys.They later moved to Oklahoma
some time befor 1900.I can not find them in any of the Texas State
census.
Any one that might have any kind of information that might help please
email me. I would also like to know the history surrounding Horseshoe
Bend. I understand that it is now some sort of Reserve.

than another road leads there. Just this morning I received info that
might help us find our Fears line. We have unsuccessfully sought info on
Addie M. Fears b. abt. 1845 who married Robert J. Wortham (Robert's son
Claud married Bernice McGee, whose parents Mortimer & Mildred Leone
Wright McGee married in Cooke Co; Mortimer's mother was Lidia Nelson
McGee McClellan. Have previously posted on these Cooke Co. lines).
The info we received was on an Adaline "Addie" Mariah Fears b. abt. 1845;
may have had a 1st marriage to a Matthews. Her parents were Dr. James S.
Fears & wife Adaline. Family legend has it all this family came to TX (2
of the girls married an Owsley and a Hipps). In 1880 mother Adaline A.
Fears was with son John Thomas(b. 1837)in Cooke Co at age 62. Do not know
if Dr. Fears or some of their other children had also lived in Cooke Co.
or not. Would anyone have info on the Fears or of course Wortham's

record of Jennie Nancy (Chisholm, Davis)Everett of Cooke Co.,
Gainesville, TX. Jennie was born in Colbert Co. Sheffield, AL in the
early 1850s to Ben Frank and Didama Chisholm. She married Thomas L. Davis
in 1872. Tom died in Terrell, TX in 1898 and Jennie subsequently married
J.P. Everett of Cooke Co., Gainesville, Texas in Feb. 1903. J.P. died
around 1906 or so and Jennie moved into her son's home (Tom F. Davis) in
Gainesville. Jennie died Feb. 7, 1908 and was supposed to have been
buried in Burns City. Anyone know what cemetery she might be in and if
her death record is on file? I assume she was buried as Jennie Everett,
and that her death certificate cites that name as well. Her great
granddaughter (my wife) is a true Texas Yellow Rose from up in Vernon way
and we're searching for her roots. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1/6/1843, d.12/24-25/1876. He married Mary Susan Howe in 1868. They had
three children: Mary Lillie, Charles Alexander and Bithel Monroe. (Bithel
and "Susan" are my gg grandparents.
Pleasant Monroe Marlow was born in May of 1841, died 1878. He married
Mary "Caroline" Whitaker in 1865, Red River TX. They had five children:
Mattie, Mary, Robert E., James Beard and another boy (?).
Both these men were my ancestors and were thought to have died in Cooke
Co,TX as their parents and other sibilings were living in Cooke Co., at
the time.
Bithel and Pleasant were brothers and very close as they lost their
mother after the birth of Bithel. They raised their families together
and even joined the army the same day,year in the same place.

mother is Mary Caroline"Carrie" Napier born 1849 and died 4/1/1922 and is
buried in Wichita Falls Tx.
Carrie was married to Plez Marlow first, Mattie is from this marriage.
When her mother remarried an Edward L. Napier around 1880 she moved with
him and her family to Wichita Falls,Grayson Co., Texas.
Can anyone help with this family. Oh, Carrie and Plez Marlow had four
other children: Matties sibilings were Mary E. (Mamie), Robert E., James
Beard, and William T. Marlow.
I would appreciate any help I can get...hoping to get some answers
regarding the death of my gg grandfather who died in his early 30's...so
did Plez Marlow that is why it is so hard to locate information. Their
mothers remarried and we lost the chain.

SMITH family. I have no info for Alan but his son, Daniel Columbus SMITH
was born in 1853 around Wise county. Dan married Martha Ellen "Mattie"
MILLHOLLAN (date unknown) and moved to Kiowa county OK. They were there
in the 1910 census. Alan was married to a MOSELEY. Sorry for the lack of
information but I just can't seem to find anything on these people. I

3. William Haden REEDER b. Nov. 13, 1889, Dexter, Cooke Co. Texas, d.
April 10, 1966. Married Clara LAND b. June 4, 1890 N.M. They lived in
Lawton, Ok. and are both buried in Letitia Cemetery. Their children are
Juanita BRESSMAN, Verna FERRIES, Vayda JONES, Beatric HUGGINS, Bernice,
Wilma, Richard, Harvey, and Clarence REEDER.
We believe Jehu went back to Ky. and died about the time William Haden
was born and Alice stayed in Texas with the children. If anyone has a
1890 or 1900 Cooke Co. census and could find Alice READER/REEDER for me I
would appreciate it very much. It is possibe she could have married
again or traveled on toward Ok. If any of these names look familiar

BOWMAN. He was age 30 b. GA, she was age 28 b. GA with children Mary

James W. was in the CW from GA. He died before the 1880 census. He is
buried in the Osborne cemetery on the Gorham/Gorum farm 8 m. south of
Gainesville.
On the 1880 census Sarah is a widow age 40 with Thomas Fletcher age 13,
Joseph Richard age 10 b. Cooke Co and James age 4 b. Cooke Co.
I would like to know who daughters Mary E. and Ruthy E. married. Thomas
Fletcher married Edna
Springer in Cooke Co 10 Feb 1889 at Mt. Springs. Joseph Richard md. Lula
J. Moore, dau/of Farmer Harvey Moore and Sarah A. Ramsey in Cooke Co on
30 Sep 1889.
This family was on the 1900 census for Dewey Co OK Terr.

1858 according to Grayson County, TX misc. probate records concerning
guardianship. Rufus C. and his brother, Wm. G.D. LANG were underage at
the death of their father, J.R. LANG. Rufus LANG married Beulah Benton
REEVES in Grayson County,
TX 6 January 1881. Their son, Roy Chesterfield, born 24 March 1884 in
Grayson County, TX was married to May Isabelle RATLIFF in Cooke County on
7 September 1906. According to a letter by Roy Chesterfield, his father,
Rufus, was a well-digger and moved the family to Oklahoma where Rufus
died. Uncle Davis(could be Wm. W.D. LANG) assisted in moving the family
to Cooke County, TX. I would appreciate information on this family and
will share what I have.

The father of Ben Franklin PORTER was Wilford H. PORTER. He died before
1880, possibly in Cooke County.
The mother of Ben Franklin PORTER was Ellender, or Ellen, maiden surname
unknown. She died after 1880 but before 1900. She may also have died in
Cooke County.
