There is a place on the Pecos River that I remember well.  Just before the highway crosses the Pecos on the Crane to Imperial highway we turned to the left and went down river a few hundred yards.  There we found a "rapids" or small section of the stream that ran fast down to a pretty goood sized hole.  There three or four men got in and threw out rocks, sticks and moss.  The water started clearing up.  That was on Saturday.  Sunday afternoon a crowd gathered and a great picnic was held on the bank.  After that there was singing of hymns.  Then there was an old fashioned baptizing, in that hole in the river.  I only remember two or more things about this.  One - Dan Lively and I were some who helped people to get into the water and walk to the preacher.  The water was about waist deep or perhaps a little deeper.  Then I remember that when the preacher thought all were through.  I was not baptized in the River Jordan but I was baptized in the clear running water of the Pecos River.
