I had a terrible earache once. I doctored it at home for awhile and then went to Dr. Maynard. He examined my ear very thoroughly. Finally he said he could not find anything wrong with it and thought it might by arthritis. Well, it kept hurting for some time, so I went to a high powered ear specialist in Odessa. I remember when we had an eye, ear, nose and throat doctor all in one. This ear man said he would find my trouble and the search began. X-rays galore, a catscan of my noggin and who knows what else. He made a study of all the test results, ran up a huge bill and said, "I think it is arthritis." I have heard through the years that Dr. B. J. Maynard was and still is one of the best diagnosticians in the medical field. Doctors have come and gone, some good, some not so good, but Dr. Maynard has hung in and stayed with us in Crane. We have "bought" a lot of doctors to get them to Crane. They did not stay. To my knowledge, Dr. Maynard has never been offered or has received a lucrative contract or bonus to be a doctor here. Will I ever forget him coming to our house every other day, alternating with Dr. Terry, to look after my mother two months when she was dying of cancer? Dr. S. F. Robinson was the pioneer doctor here with his brother and another Dr. Robinson. |
