Margaret Crouch Tiner
Obituary

CRANE, TX.
Margaret Elizabeth Tiner, 84 years old, beloved wife, mother, sister, daughter and grandmother, passed quietly to the Lord on Saturday, August 11, 2007, at Hospice House in Odessa. Margaret was born on February 2, 1923, in Ft. Worth to the Reverend E.H. and Ura Georgia (Hallmark) Crouch, and was the first of two children born to the Crouches. Her brother, Major Edward Crouch (Air Force) preceded her in death in 2006, as did her parents in 1974.
As a baby less than one year old, Margaret accompanied her family to northeastern Brazil where her parents spent 25 years as Southern Baptist missionaries. Margaret was home schooled by her teacher mother the first five years of her public school age, and she was fluent in both English and Portuguese. Margaret stayed in Brazil until the age of 12, at which time she returned to the states and completed her public education at San Marcos Baptist Academy in San Marcos, Texas, while her parents continued serving the Lord as missionaries in Brazil. After graduating from the Academy, Margaret attended Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton her freshman college year and then transferred to Baylor University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education in 1944. Margaret was a member of Alpha Omega Sorority while at Baylor.
Margaret taught public school for two years before meeting the love of her life, David Daniel Tiner, also an educator. They married in Waco on August 20, 1949.
Mrs. Tiner taught a total of 27 years. Of those 27 years, she spent 9 years teaching Spanish and art in Temple, Texas and 18 years teaching 4th grade in Crane. Margaret was a third generation teacher, and she, her mother and her maternal grandmother all graduated from Baylor with public school teaching degrees.
Margaret had great faith in the Lord and loved her church in Crane. She also enjoyed playing the piano, traveling around the world with her friends and family, taking pictures of friends and loved ones, square dancing, quilting, playing dominoes and spending time with her grandchildren. Margaret was a loving and gentle person with a genuine love for all people.
She is survived by her husband, David Tiner of Crane; three children, Robin Tiner of Crane, Danella Cockrell and husband, Dr. Ralph of Odessa, Texas and Tommy Tiner of Abilene,Texas. She is survived by three grandchildren, Brad Cockrell, Georgia Hayes and Erica Tiner.
Pallbearers will be Brad Cockrell, Bozo Edwards, Jimmy Shipman, Arnold Durham, Ronnie Warren and John Paul Loyless.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2007, at the First Baptist Church in Crane with Johnny Thomason officiating. Burial will follow at the Crane County Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.
