Ark-La-Tex Genealogical Association Presents a Seminar, August 8, 2026, on Land Records and Wills

Welcome

Dawson County research is a bit tricky because there have been TWO Dawson Counties. The first was created down in south Texas from Kinney County, Maverick County and Uvalde County in 1856 but was given back to Kinney and Uvalde counties in 1866. We have an 1860 census record for that county. Present-day Dawson County was created from Bexar County in 1876, a considerable distance north of the original. If your family records indicate that your family was in Dawson County or Fort Clark before 1866, you should check the records down south in Kinney, Maverick and Uvalde counties.
In memory of Peggy Trammel, USGenWeb volunteer and TXGenWeb Coordinator.
