Brief Overview

Dublin, Texas is located in the Southwest part of Erath County.  Founded
in 1854 by A. H. Dobkins, the settlement was first named "Doublin" in
1860.  The origin of the name is still controversial.  The town was
incorporated as "Dublin" on Mar. 18, 1889.

There are over 4,000 residents in Dublin.  The economy is largely
centered around agriculture as it was in the days of its early settlers.
Many families are engaged in dairy farming, the chief industry of Erath
County.  Other industries ranging from textiles to energy production
flourish here as well.

Dublin is the home of the popular carbonated drink, Dr. Pepper.  While
Dr. Pepper is enjoyed all over the country, there is a special variety only
available in Dublin and vicinity, known as "Dublin Dr. Pepper."  The
difference between this variety and the commercial one is that the Dublin
version uses only pure cane sugar, no lower-grade or artificial sweeteners.

Dublin's celebrity is the famous professional golfer, the late Ben Hogan.
He was born here on August 13, 1912 and died July 25, 1997.  The Union
Civil War group, Grand Army of the Republic, held reunions here for a time.
