Obituary James Eastland Had Relatives in Waxahachie From Research Conducted at the Nicholas P. Sims Library, Waxahachie, Ellis County, Texas September 20, 2003 by Debbi Rodgers   Waxahachie Enterprise, Feb. 12, 1904 The young planter, James Eastland, who was assassinated by a negro named Holbert near Doddsville Miss., Wednesday, Feb. 3, was related to Capt. M. Eastland and Mrs. Charley Crocker of Waxahachie. Mr. Crocker, who returned from a visit to Forest, Miss., says the killing of young Eastland created wild excitement in that part of the state. When he left Mississippi on his return home more than a thousand men were scouring the country for the negro and he was not surprised Monday when he read of the capture and burning of Holbert and his wife.
