Mrs. A. Wicker

Mrs. Wicker, 67, died at 10:35 at home in Waxahachie after an illness of two weeks. She was the fifth member of the First Baptist Church to die of pneumonia during the last three weeks when this illness has become prevalent in Waxahachie and throughout the county. A sixth church member also has died in less than a month's time.

Mrs. Wicker was a native of near Alexander City, Alabama, and moved with her husband to Ellis County about forty years ago. During the last thirty one years they have lived in or near Waxahachie.

Survivors include her husband, two sons, Ed and Arthur Wicker, both of Dallas and three daughters Mrs. Tilden Connor and Mrs. H. A. Quaite, Waxahachie and Mrs. J I. King of Dallas, all of whom were here at the time of their mother's death.

Mrs. Wicker was the oldest of a family of twelve children - four brothers and three sisters  also survive her: Reed Young of Duncan, Okla. and Homer Young of Waco - both here Saturday; and W. K. and Kelley Young of Birmingham, Ala. who were unable to be here. Sisters Mrs. Will Thomas of Dallas and Mrs. Leroy Upshaw of Waxahachie will attend services, but Mrs. Grace Sanford of Alexander City, Ala. will be unable to attend.

Services will be held Sunday afternoon, 3 pm at the First Baptist Church, Rev. W. H. McKenzie, pastor, officiating, with burial in City Cemetery. Pall bearers: W. D. Farrar, Coyt Mallot, Ferris; Roy Akin, Stuart Moore, Martin Stroud, Allan Kemble, Carr Forrest and Alice Ward.



Waxahachie Daily Light - May 7, 1927

A. Wicker, age 69, honored Waxahachian, who died of pneumonia Saturday afternoon, was buried in City Cemetery Sunday afternoon after services held at the First Baptist Church.

After his wife's death about 13 months ago, Mr. Wicker had lived with his daughter and son-in-law, (Mr. and Mrs. J. L. King, 117 Virginia Street) where he died after an illness of about ten days.

Mr. Wicker was born in Macon, Ga., and had spent the last forty years in or near Waxahachie. Survivors:  sons and daughters: Mrs. J. I. Connor and Mrs. J. I. King, Waxahachie; Mrs. H. A. Quaite, Kerens; T. E. Wicker and A. H. Wicker, Dallas. One sister and brother also survive.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. H. McKensie, pastor of the First Baptist Church and Masonic rites at the graveside were held by members of the Waxahachie Lodge A. F. &. A. M. No. 99.

Among the many friends paying homage to his memory were: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Abell, Miss Marclara Oldham, R. Roenfiles, Mr. Carey King and William King, Mr. and Mrs. Stiles, and S. V. Matthews (all of Dallas); Mr. and Mrs. Homer Young, Waco; Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Wicker, Mr. and Mrs. B. T. Wicker; I. H. Bain and family (all of Ferris); Mr. and Mrs. W. Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. R. Walker, Mrs. Marlow and son and Mr. and Mrs. L. Chester (all of Kerens).
