Pioneers of Ellis County Lucy A. Whitefield Tate 1868 -1903 Contributed by Jean Caddel   Daughter of J. J. and Louisa Whitefield, Lucy was born in 1868 in Tennessee. The family moved to Bosque County, Texas in 1880's, later settling north of Avalon in Ellis County. Lucy met John Calloway Tate at a picnic near present day Forreston. They were married by Rev. A. D. Brooks in November 1891. The ceremony was performed while they were sitting in a buggy in Italy, Texas. Note: J. J. Whitefield was an early settler in the Bethel-Boz-Greathouse Community.
