Wills & Other Probate Records

A note I wrote in 1965: "Case #962 was probated in 1907, therefore all numbers under 962 were prior to 1907. This index is not complete, but this does not mean that the records which were omitted from the index aren't in the Courthouse. Hundreds of huge, dusty old ledgers are stored in the basement archives and although they are not in any kind of order, but rather in stacks, from floor to ceiling, it is the belief of the Clerk that all the records of the county are intact and that none have been lost, destroyed, burned, etc. Case #1 was probated in 1866, but this is not in the index." Remember, that was 35 years ago. One hopes that when the new Courthouse was built that all the old records went there. [Dorris]

This is just a piece of the names from only the A Index.

A collection of material gathered and donated by Jan Parsons Armstrong, El Paso, Texas. This material was copied in 1964-66 at the El Paso County Courthouse. These are brief abstracts. Most of these were the originals, in the Testators' own writing and in a few cases, the paper on which the Will was written proves to be a valuable source of genealogical data.

Marsh, William D.dated 27 January 1885 in El Paso. (This Will written and signed by Marsh is on the back of a Masonic certificate; appears to be his certificate of membership in the Masons and judging from the stains of shellac, or glue, around the edges of the back side, it looks as though the certificate was in a frame for many years.)
