| NOTES: My great grandpa, Eugine Lavarsha Nunnelee was a school teacher and an eloquent speaker; he and his siblings each received an extraordinary education before the age of 14. He told all of his children that he had been born in FRANCE and educated all over Europe but his CSA records and subsequent documents for his parents etc PROVE this was just malarky! His parents divorced when he was 4 years old and he, his mother, and his sister Cornelia Caroline came to Texas in 1866 where his mother died after 1870 and his sister Cornelia Caroline (Nunnelee) Burt died January 16, 1892. My great grandparents Eugine & Cora have living descendants by only 3 of their 8 children: daughter Eddie, daughter Annie, and my grandfather Otis. My great grandpa, Eugine Lavarsha Nunnelee 1st married Miss Hadie Griffin in 1874 and had 3 children: Walter Eugene, Hadie Alice, and Robert Griffin Nunnelee. His 1st wife is buried in Alvarado, Johnson Co., TX and her gravemarker reads: "Hadie N. Nunnelee, wife of E. L., March 21, 1856 - November 8, 1884" - only their son Walter has no biological living descendants. My great grandma Cora's father, paternal and maternal grandfathers, and many of her uncles and great uncles are well documented as fighters for Texas Independence |
