Obituary (Published in Lamb County Leader, Littlefield Texas)

Services for Tommy A. Cate, 82, of Tucson, AZ were held in Corvallis OR on November 26, 2002.  Burial took place at Oak Lawn Memorial Park in Corvallis OR.  He was born on April 14, 1920 in Streetman Texas.  He was a graduate of Ropesville High School.  After a lengthy illness, Mr. Cate passed away on November 18, 2002 in Tucson AZ. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elsie Cate of Tucson, his son Dr. Rodney Cate (Pat) of Tucson, granddaughters Brandi Potter (Michael) of Kirkland WA and Shani Cate (Stephen Leibenguth) of Olympia WA.  In addition, he is survived by 5 great grandchildren. 

Mr. Cate lived in Sudan TX from 1941 to 1991 and was the owner of a beauty salon there for 50 years.  He moved to Ames, Iowa in 1991 to be near his son and moved again in 1995 to Tucson AZ.  Mr. Cate was actively involved in the First Baptist Church of Sudan, serving as a Sunday school teacher and as the pianist/organist of that church for almost 50 years. Above all, he was devoted to his family and took most pride in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.  A memorial service will be held in Sudan in the near future.
