JAMES HUGH HOWELL, age 74, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend went to be with the Lord on December 9, 2003. He was born on October 28, 1929 in Teague, Texas, graduated from Teague High School and obtained his Bachelor of Science and Master of Education degrees from Sam Houston State Teachers College. He served in National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserves. He worked in Human Resources at Folgers Coffee Co., Meador-Brady, Reed Tool Co./Camco, and the City of Houston Aviation Dept. until he retired. James' love for the Lord was evident, as he served as a Deacon and Sunday school teacher both at Texas Avenue Baptist Church and Park Place Baptist Church. He was devoted to his wife, children, and grandchildren. His other passions included working in the yard, tending to all of his plants, and simply showing kindness and compassion by doing things for others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James E. & Lila M. Howell; and his brother, Joe Howell.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Patsy; daughter, Brenda Blue and husband Gordon; daughter Sandra Howell; grandchildren, David and Elizabeth Blue; and his two sisters, Mary Robinson and Betty Pruitt; and numerous other family members and the entire Park Place Church  family.

The family will receive friends Friday, December 12, 2003, from 6:00 - 8:00p.m. at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home. Services will be held Saturday, December 13, 2003, at 10:00a.m. at Park Place Baptist Church, 4101 Broadway, Houston, TX  77087 (713) 643-4303. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations in his memory to Park Place Baptist Church.
