Russell Franklin Milliken, Jr., 82, died at his home in Florence, Texas, on Jan. 6. He was born July 9, 1925, in Ira, Texas, and spent his youth growing up in nearby Westbrook.

After finishing school Russell soon joined the United States Army and a few months later married Nelda Jo York.

He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant after serving in the 508th Infantry regiment that fought at Normandy, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. After the war he returned home where he farmed, worked in the oil fields, and eventually owned his own service station in Big Spring. After retiring from Mobil he and Jo moved to Burnet in the mid 1980s where they lived at Enchanted Valley near Lake LBJ.

In addition to his wife Jo, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Joe Don Milliken, in September 1991.

Russell is survived by one daughter, Ann Morrow and husband, Tommy, of Florence; two sons, Bruce Milliken and wife, Karen, of Florence and Joe Milliken and wife, Mary, of
Melvin, Texas; one brother, Bill Milliken of Coahoma, Texas; one sister, Vera Lee Hunter of Marble Falls; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet with the Rev. Ellen Ely officiating.

Burial was held on Thursday, Jan. 10, at the Coahoma Cemetery in Coahoma, Texas.

Memorial contributions may be made to the playground renovation fund at the First United Methodist Church of Burnet or to any favorite charity or organization.
