The 27th C

Several men who have ties to the Lewis EZELL family were members of the Alabama 27th Infantry, Company C, of the Confederate States Army. They were from Lauderdale County, Alabama.

Many from this Company were captured by Union forces and held at Fort Delaware. Some died as prisoners, while some returned to their homes to find the destruction caused by this "War Between the States." Below is listed some of the "Lauderdale County men" who were part of the Alabama 27th Infantry, Company C.

Henry J. ADAMS, Private [1845-1919], son of David ADAMS and Vicy HAYNES. David was a brother to Nancy ADAMS, who married George Washington  WATERS [see below].

Allen BALCOMBE, Private [1834-1862] is sometimes referred to as McAllen/Allen BALKUM. He married Angelina "Angie" BOYD, daughter of Joseph BOYD and Priscilla EZELL. Priscilla was a daughter of Lewis EZELL and Nancy ROGERS.

Jackson J. CARR and Milton CARR, both ranked as Private, were sons of Andrew CARR and Anna WATERS. Anna was a daughter of George Washington WATERS and Nancy ADAMS.

W. Monroe COTHRON, Private. This was Wiley Monroe COTHRAN, son of Hiram COTHRAN and Martha EZELL. Martha was a daughter of Lewis EZELL and Nancy ROGERS. Monroe was born October 29, 1843 and died February 14, 1908. He is buried in Siloam Cemetery in Leon County, Texas.

D. C. EZELL, Private; this was David Crockett, son of David EZELL and Nancy WATERS. David was a son of Lewis EZELL and Nancy  ROGERS. Nancy was a daughter of George Washington WATERS and Nancy ADAMS. Crockett was born October 15, 1838 and died July 21, 1921. He is buried in Siloam Cemetery in Leon County, Texas.

LINDSAY, Aid, Private; this was Adron, a son of Phillip LINDSEY and Frankie SHARP. His nephew Joseph A. LINDSEY [son of Adron's brother, Caleb] married Fannie BAUCOM/BALKUM, a daughter of McAllen/Allen BALKUM/BAUCOM/BALCOMBE and Angelina BOYD [mentioned above].

LOVELACE, Asa, Private; Asa married Emily, daughter of Joseph BOYD and Priscilla EZELL [mentioned above]. Josephine LOVELACE, a daughter of Asa and Emily, married Wiley WATERS.
