Pauline & Robert Cargill

Pauline and Robert Cargill are members of pioneer families of Harrison and Gregg Counties. Pauline Wood Cargill is the daughter of Bob & Ida D. Wood, of Gregg County. When Bob Wood's family moved to Gregg County they settled in the Danville Community. Pauline's grandfather, T.B. "Buck" Harris was a farmer and landowner along Hawkins Creek in the Sabine River bottoms and had an extensive farm. Pauline's ggrandparents, Please Harris and wife, moved to Texas in the early 1800's. They settled in the western edge of the now Longview at the Rockwall Stage Coach location. Their children were raised on and farmed most of the land west of Longview to Gladewater.

Robert Cargill was a Harrison County native. The son of Atelia Hope and G.E. Cargill, the Cargills ancestors settled in Harrison County before the Texas Revolution. Robert's ggrandmother Hope was an extensive plantation owner and founded the town of Karnack and operated steamboat lines from Jefferson to New Orleans. Up until the Civil War Robert's grandfather, Henry Cargill, was overseerer of the Colonel Buck Scott Plantation. During the Texas Revolution, supplies were sent to Sam Houston's Army during the Battle of San Jacinto from the Colonel Buck Scott Plantation.

Robert & Pauline had two children: Dr. Robert L. Cargill, Jr. and Mrs. Charles Kaplan.

Robert Cargill attended the public schools of Marshall, Texas. He moved to Longview, Texas in the early part of the 1930's. His offices were located at South and Green Street, in the Longview Savings & Loan Building, downtown Longview.
