Comments: Joe Freeman arrived in Gregg Co, TX in 1898 with his mother and step-father, T. W. Mitchell. He was a member of Judson Baptist Church and served as song leader; he also led the singing at many "singings" held in various churches in the area. Farming was his occupation. Myrtle Smith's grandson remembered her a "a truly good person who never wished anything bad on anybody."  She arrived in Gregg Co in 1898/99 with her parents and was a life-long member of Judson Baptist Church. They always told the truth and acted morally and expected the same of all with whom they came in contact.
