Allen, Raymond 


GLADEWATER -- Services for Raymond Allen, 74, of Gladewater, will be held 11 a.m. 
Saturday, March 25, 2006, at Croley Funeral Home Chapel, with Dale Thomas and Larry 
W. Osborne officiating. Burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery. Born December 2, 1931, 
in Gladewater, Texas, he died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at his residence. He was the 
son of the late Curtis and Jewel Allen. A 1949 graduate of Gladewater High School, 
he received an associate of arts degree from Kilgore College and then studied real 
estate and business. On October 6, 1951, he married Betty Jane Saulter. He was a 
former employee and manager of SWEPCO. In 1976, he opened Raymond Allen Real Estate. 
His involvement in civic and community activities included the Gladewater Chamber of 
Commerce, the Gladewater Jaycees, the Gladewater Lion's Club, the Gladewater Industrial 
Board, the Gladewater Municipal Hospital Board, and the Longview Board of Realtors. 
Presently, he was chairman of the Gladewater National Bank Board of Directors. Mr. 
Allen was a member of the Quitman and Center Church of Christ and a former deacon. He 
is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Allen of Gladewater; two sons, Brian Allen 
and Mark Allen, both of Gladewater; two grandchildren, Brandy Allen and Casey Allen, 
both of Gladewater; and two great-grandchildren, Brandon Johnson and Kelsie Johnson, 
both of Gladewater. Pallbearers will be N.L. "Bo" Martin, Adron Dunnavant, Joe Jones, 
Sam Rankin, Jamon Kirby, and Dr. Tom Armstrong. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis 
Bright, Bill High, and Jerry Williams. No formal visitation is scheduled.
