Wednesday December 19, 1928 Barnett, Brakeman, Killed Longview Man Found Dead on Top of Box Car Today Clyde Barnett, 23, brakeman on the Texas and Pacific railway, was found dead on top of a freight car at Bivins Switch, near Atlanta about 7:30 o'clock this morning. Death was believed to have been caused by Barnett's head striking an overhead bridge while the switching train was in mother. His head was badly bruised, but the skull was not fractured. Barnett's body was found on top of the car by Conductor Buck Brown. The conductor said he gave a signal to change cars in the Bivins yard and no response was made. Investigating he found the body of the brakeman. Brown said the train had passed under an overhead bridge before reaching Bivins. The body was brought to a local undertaking establishment this morning and awaiting removal this afternoon. Funeral arrangements have no been made. Barnett is survived by his wife, and a three months old daughter, and his parents. Barnett's grandfather was killed in an accident in Fort Worth last October. Mrs. Barnett's brother was killed in the local T & P yards last September when he fell between two cars. Friday December 28, 1928 Tribute To Clyde Barnett Clyde Barnett was born in Longview 23 years ago and was raised in Fort Worth. He was a member of the Polytechnic Methodist church in Fort Worth. After he returned to Longview, he married Miss Virginia Vanderwater, and they were blessed with a little daughter, Nelda Loraine, who is three months old, and his wife and baby survive him. The funeral services were held from the home of Mrs. Vanderwater, impressive and beautiful, conducted by the Rev. W. R. Swain, of Kelly Memorial Methodist church. Services at the cemetery were in charge of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainman with burial in Grace Hill cemetery. Besides his wife and daughter, deceased is survived by his father, J.E. Barnett of this city and a sister Miss Ollie Grace Barnett of Fort Worth.
