Saturday May 29, 1926 H.C. Bennett Dead at Home in This City Was for 6 Years City Secretary of City of Longview The death of Henry Clinton Bennett, which occurred at an early hour this morning, at his home in this city, following an illness of fourteen months, has caused deep sorrow among his host of friends here, who have so lovingly and affectionatly ministered to him during the last declining weeks of his illness. Henry Clinton Bennett, son of Mr Albert G. Benton and Mrs Alice Melton Bennett, was born in Madison Station, Miss, February 15, 1893. He was reared and educated in Mississippi and came to Longview when about eighteen years of age to work in the office of the Longview Cotton Oil company. For six years he served in the city administration, as city secretary and treasurer, and at the time he was taken ill, was representative in Longview for Heid Brothers Grain Company at El Paso. While still a young man, he was united in marriage to Mis Grace Oxley of Longview. To this union were born two sons, H.C. Jr, and Garry, who with the mother are receiving the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in the loss of their kind and loving and devoted husband and father. Others surviving are his father and mother, and three sisters, Mrs H. Warren and Misses Ruth and Alice Bennett of Madison Station, Miss, and three uncles, K.S. Melton, S. C. Melton and J.W. Melton, all of Longview. In early childhood, deceased united with the Methodist church and has lived a faithful and consistent christian life. He was a member of the Board of Stewards of the Kelly Memorial Methodist when illness necessitated his resignation from that office in 1925. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock at the Kelly Memorial Methodist church by Rev. J. Coy williams, pastor of the church, with burial in Grace Hill cemetery. Pythian Lodge No. 26 will officiate at the burial service. Active pallbearers: R. A. McLain, L.D, Kelly, G.A. Bodenheim, John T. Buckley, Alton Holloway, Oliver Danield, Lacy Eddins, and E. B. Rembert.
