Ocotber 12, 1986 Man's body discovered in Sabine River The Gregg County Sheriff's office was called at 11 a.m. Saturday to the Sabine River at FM2087 by a man, who while target practicing, found the body of a young white male, Sgt. B. W. Acker said. Justice of the Peace Bob Robinson ordered an autopsy. Acker said the name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Officer Bill Drennan is being assisted by other officers in the investigation. October 11, 1986 Roy William Bruce (Died 10 - 11 - 1986 ) Graveside services for Roy William Bruce, 25, of Longview were 2 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Harper officiating under the direction of Welch Funeral Home. Mr. Bruce was an oil field worker and a member of Gum Springs Christian church. He was a lifetime resident of Longview. Survivors include his daughter, Brandy Bruce of Longview; parents, Mr. & Mrs. Dewayne Bruce of Hallsville; brothers, Steve, Kevin and Kirk, all of Longview; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Deutsch and Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Scharff, all from Longview. Probe continues into death Officers are continuing their investigation into the Saturday morning death of a longview man, the Gregg County Sherrif's Office reported. Sgt. B. W. Acker said officers had no new developments in the shooting of Roy William Bruce, 25, whose body was found in the Sabine River at the 2087 bridge. Officers believe two weapons were used in the murder. Officers also believe Bruce was shot elsewhere, and then his body was taken to the river and dumped in the water.
