April 1, 1909 A Sad Accident Last monday just a few minutes before the noon hour, the news was circulated about that Harold, the little two and one-half year old son of Mr and Mrs Sam Byrd was missing and the fond parents and neighbors at once began looking for the child. An abandoned well under the back gallery of the home of Mr and Mrs S. F. cook, with whom Mr Byrd and his family had rooms, was dragged and the body found and brought out by Searcy Birdsong. Everything possible was done by experienced physicians to bring the child back to life, but alas, to no avail, as he had possibly been under the water for an hour or more. Mr. Byrd has the position of foreman of the Times-Clarion office, he and his family having moved here from Marshall about two months ago. The funeral was conducted from the home Tuesday at 10 a.m. by Rev. J. S. Baird, assisted by Dr. D. G. Gunn. There were many citizens in attendance. As they looked upon the sweet, placid little body in this white casket, surrounded by beautiful and fragrant flowers - yet not more beautiful or pure than the tiny face within - their hearts swelled with sympathy for the bereaved parents. But let us not think of little Harold as dead, but as living; not as a flower that has wilted, but as one transplanted and touched by a diving, blooming in richer color and sweeter fragrance than those of earth. This baby was so precious and fraught wit blessing to his parents, but the memory of the precious boy should inspire them with hopes and thoughts of purity. The little remains were tenderly laid to rest in Grace Hill cemetery. The grave was literally covered with floral tributes. While we sincerely sympathize with the parents, we would remind them that their darling boy is with the angels.
