Berney, Lynn Louis

June 23, 1920 - February 16, 2007/Lynn Louis Berney, 86, 
passed away Friday evening, February 16, 2007, at a local 
hospital. Lynn Berney was a man of great faith, a wonderful 
husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He put 
his faith and family foremost in his life, serving as a 
loving guide to his three daughters. Lynn enjoyed working 
in the yard, traveling, coin collecting and attending his 
grandchildren's activities and sports events. Berney was 
born June 23, 1920, in Knoxville, Tennessee, where he later 
graduated from Central High School and Draughton's Business 
College. Beginning his career with Eastman Kodak in 1941, 
in Kingsport, Tennessee, Berney moved to Longview in 1950, 
as part of the initial team that founded Texas Eastman. He 
retired as supervisor of accounts payable in 1981 after 40 
years of service with Eastman. Berney served for four years 
during World War II in the 69th Infantry Division of the U.S. 
Army on the European front and was an active participant in 
D-Day. In 1947, Berney married his wife, Vera Litton, of 
Pennington Gap, Virginia; they would have celebrated their 
60th wedding anniversary this July. He was an active member 
of the First United Methodist Church, where he served for 
many years on the finance committee and was a member of the 
Men's Bible Class for more than 50 years. Lynn Berney was 
preceded in death by his parents, William and Grace Berney; 
and three brothers, Charles, Bill and Frank Berney. Survivors 
include his wife, Vera; daughter, Mary Berney; and daughters 
and sons-in-law, Jane and Bill Gullette and Linda and Jim 
Buie. He had four devoted grandchildren, Jed Buie and his 
wife, Susan, Melinda Buie, Will Gullette and Peter Gullette. 
He also had one great-grandchild, Ella Buie. A memorial 
service will be 2 p.m. Monday, February 19, 2007, at First 
United Methodist Church. Interment will precede the service 
at Rosewood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. today at 
Rader Funeral Home. The family requests memorials be made 
to First United Methodist Church or the American Heart
