Burton, Ruth Still Ruth Still Burton died on April 9, 2007, in Longview. The memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 13, 2007, at the Nicholson Memorial Chapel of First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Turner officiating. Mrs. Burton was born in Kilgore to Rudd H. and Mary Botter Still. She moved to Longview with her family during her early childhood years. She graduated from Longview High School in 1936, and received her B.S. degree at C.I.A. (now Texas Woman's University). Following graduation, she was employed at the Gregg County Auditor's Office. In 1941, she married Allen Wells Burton. They were married for more than 61 years, until his death in 2003. Mrs. Burton and her husband enjoyed traveling to many countries in Europe, the near and far East, Canada and Central America. She was a lifelong member of First Methodist Church and a charter member of the Goodwin Class, now named Thelma Morgan Class. She was a member of the Capt. William Young Chapter DAR, the KRD Bridge Club, Prelude, a charter member of the Gregg County Historical Museum, Opera Longview and the Longview Art Museum. For 27 years, she was the memorial chairman of the Longview Symphony Memorial Foundation. Mrs. Burton was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Still Pearce and Naomi Still McDonald. Mrs. Burton is survived by two daughters, Linda B. Smith and husband, Richard N. Smith of Longview and Judy B. Wells of Austin; four grandchildren, Julie L. Shannon of Pasadena, Calif., N. Elaine Shannon of Austin, David Uygur and wife, Jennifer of Dallas and Emel Linda Given and husband, Kevin of Houston; and one sister, Mary Clements of Longview.
