Biggs, Richard GLADEWATER - Services for Richard Biggs, 85, of Gladewater, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2007, at the First Baptist Church, with the Reverend Ellis Hayden and the Reverend Aubrey Pate officiating. Burial will be in Gladewater Memorial Park. Born December 24, 1921, in Longview, he died Tuesday, July 31, 2007. A graduate of Forest Avenue High School in Dallas, he attended SMU. Mr. Biggs served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was a member of the Third Air Depot Group, stationed in Agra, India from 1942-1946. He married Norma Hill on December 20, 1947, in Dallas. Mr. Biggs was a Royal Arch Mason. In 1982, he retired from the Sun Oil Co., having served 34 years. He was an artist and enjoyed years of oil painting. Upon his retirement, he enjoyed having a picture frame shop where he met and made lasting friendships. He joined the Gladewater First Baptist Church in 1977 and served as a faithful deacon for 23 years and as director of the Adult V Sunday School Class for many years. Mr. Biggs was preceded in death by his parents, Walter L. and Laura Pearl Biggs; brother, Edgar Biggs; and sister, Adele Richardson. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Norma Biggs of Gladewater; sons and daughter-in-law, Dan Louis Biggs of Gladewater, and Steven Craig and Carole Biggs of Gladewater; grandson, Jason Louis Biggs of Mesquite; step granddaughter, Kelly D'Spain of Austin; four nieces and one nephew.
