Childers Sr., Verl Graveside services for Verl Childers Sr., 79, of Longview, will be 10 a.m. Monday, November 6, 2006, at Summerfield Cemetery with the Rev. Brad Nelson officiating. Mr. Childers died Friday, November 3, 2006, at a local medical center. Arrangements are under the direction of Welch Funeral Home, 4619 Judson Road. Mr. Childers was born February 27, 1927, to Robert Chester and Neylon Stephens Childers in Longview. He was a member of Summerfield United Methodist Church. Mr. Childers was a graduate from the school of nursing at Providence Hospital in Waco, and was retired after 30 years of service as a registered nurse with the V.A. Hospital in Temple. He returned to Longview in 1977, where he raised his two granddaughters, Donna and Jennifer. He loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and enjoyed raising milk goats. Mr. Childers is survived by his wife, Grace Childers of Longview; son and daughter-in-law, Verl Jr. and Liz Childers of Itasca, Texas; daughter, Linda Childers of San Antonio; brother, Mack Childers of Biloxi, Mississippi; granddaughters and husbands, Carey and Ryan Clagett of Trophy Club, Texas, Lindsay and Joe Savala , Donna Kay and Jason Blades, all of San Antonio, Jennifer and Andrew Rucker of Longview, and Heather and Randall Centers of Midland; granddaughter, Kelley Childers of Modesto, California; Paul Maleski of Nacogdoches; great-grandchildren, Katheryn and Lucas Blades of San Antonio, Texas, Madalynn and Keeten Centers of Midland, Arik Maleski, Jude and Gracie Rucker of Longview.
