Collins, James Patrick "Jim" James "Jim" Patrick Collins, 53, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 9, 2007. Jim died of injuries suffered in a bus accident in Nigeria, Africa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Laurie Berg Collins, 16 months ago. He was also preceded in death by his father, John Collins. He is survived by his children, Anna and Isaac-John Collins; his mother, Catherine Collins; his sisters, Betsy and Nora; a younger brother, Andy; and numerous other family members. Jim loved the outdoors and became an Eagle Scout. After graduating from Oregon State University with a degree in forest engineering, he worked with the Department of Natural Resources in Washington. After becoming a Christian, Jim attended Prairie Bible Institute in Canada. He served from 1982-1985 with the Sudan Interior Mission (SIM) in Nigeria, where he met Laurie. After marrying in 1985, Jim and Laurie attended language school in Costa Rica, worked under SIM in Bolivia, then served as missionaries under SIM/Missionary Tech Team in Longview, Texas, from 1991-2005. After Laurie's death, Jim returned to Nigeria to teach seminary students. Jim's servant heart and humble spirit, exemplified in his work and in his years of devoted care for Laurie, will be remembered by those who knew and loved him. A memorial service celebrating Jim's life will be held on Monday, April 30, at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 4715 Tenneryville Road, Longview.
