Cook Jr., John Glenn TEXAS CITY - John Glenn Cook Jr., 66, passed away on July 29, 2007, in Texas City, following a valiant fight against leukemia. Born in 1940, to John and Vera Cook of Longview, he was a graduate of Longview High School. John graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in secondary education. He and Olivia were married 43 years ago and settled in Texas City. He taught art and history in Texas City ISD from 1965 until he retired because of illness 3 1½2 years ago. He was of the Methodist faith. The proud father of Glenn Cook of Lorton, Va., and Julia Ghirardi of Texas City, he was also gifted with nine wonderfully unique grandchildren: Nicholas, Katherine, Emma and Ben Cook; and Calliope, Eric, Matthew, Dora Rose and Drayce Ghirardi. Other survivors, in addition to his wife, Olivia, include his sister, Elizabeth Landers and her husband, David; brother-in-law, Randall Vestal and his wife, Merry; Glenn's wife, Jill; Julie's husband, Michael; an uncle, Maurice Cook; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, August 5, 2007, at Carnes Funeral Home in Texas City. Honoring his wishes, John will be cremated. In lieu of floral arrangements, memorial contributions may be made to Texas City ISD Foundation for the Future, P.O. Box 1150, Texas City, TX 77592-1150.
