Catterton, 94, Whose Husband Was Lee Courier, Dies Mrs. Sarah Beth Catterton, one of Longview's most beloved pioneer women, died of a heart attack, Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. H. Bortle, at 311 North First street. She was 94. Mrs. Catterton had been a resident of Longview for 60 years. She moved here from Albemarle county, Virginia, her birthplace. She was the widow of the late B. N. Catterton, retired railroad man, who died 17 years ago. During the Civil War, Mr. Catterton was a courier for Gen. Robert E. Lee. Known to scores of Longview citizens for her gentility and gracious manner, Mrs. Catterton was a true Southern aristocrat. She was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. She belonged to the Eastern Star and was honored by that organization in Longview every year with a special birthday service. Mrs. Catterton was a devout church woman and attended the First Methodist church regularly. Funeral services are to be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday from the home of Mrs. Bortle. Rev. Fred Few of the First Methodist church will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery under direction of Welch's Funeral home. Pallbearers will be: George A. Miller, Bill Padon, Richard Bortle, W. H. Whittington, Dush Shaw, and Will Rothwell. Besides her daughter, Mrs. Catterton is survived by a son, R. L. Catterton of Paris; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
