Chalupnik, Al A celebration of life for Al Chalupnik, 84, of Longview, will be 4 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church. Adolph Neel "Al" Chalupnik went to be with his creator Friday, December 14, 2007, at 8 p.m., at a local hospital. Mr. Chalupnik was born September 29, 1923, in Houston, Texas, to Gustave and Frances Chalupnik. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1943, where he served in the Sonar Division until the end of the war. He joined the Naval Reserve in 1943, and served honorably until 1974, when he was discharged with the rank of commander. After the war, Mr. Chalupnik finished college at the University of Kansas, where he received a degree in electrical engineering. He met his wife in Milwaukee, and Al and Janet were married in Wausau. They lived in Boston, Dallas and Shreveport. Al and Janet went into the insurance business in Shreveport, where they reared their family of four children. They retired in northwest Arkansas and then Longview. Survivors include Mr. Chalupnik's sister, Elsie Schiemenz; brother, James Chalupnik; his three daughters, Catherine Fife and husband, Buddy, Cynthia Newton and husband, Ron, and Mary Jean Davis and husband, Brice; his son, William Chalupnik and wife, Jordie; three grandsons, Andrew, Jim and Patrick; and his loving wife of 57 years, Janet Chalupnik. His family would life to sincerely thank the employees of Good Shepherd Medical Center's Intensive Care Unit and all the doctors and nurse who cared for him during his illness.
