UNKNOWN Corbin, Sandra Sept. 14, 1944 - Feb. 16, 2008 Sandra Corbin, 63, a longtime resident of Kilgore, died on Saturday, February 16, 2008, at her home after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. She was born September 14, 1944, in Norwalk, Connecticut, the daughter of Dominick and the late Josephine Postorino. She graduated from Westport, Connecticut schools and went on to receive certification in piano studies from the Westport School of Music. She then graduated from Oberlin College of Music with her major in piano. In 1984, she opened Corbin's Piano Place in Kilgore, teaching area children piano. Her teaching style was guided by her love of the piano, music and children. In her career of 23 years, her teaching spanned multi-generations of many families. Her students consistently received the top awards offered in the local festivals and recitals, as well as some aspiring to become professional musicians. She was a dedicated member of the Kilgore Area Music Teacher's Association, frequently serving in an officer capacity with many responsibilities. Music and teaching were very important parts of her life in which she was extremely dedicated to excellence. It was with much sadness and regret she gave up teaching this past summer due to her illness. She was also a long-standing member of the American College of Musicians. Sandy was an extremely loving, amazingly strong and generous person who loved her family and students dearly. She was an avid swimmer and especially enjoyed biking, dining out, reading and her beloved dogs, Ginger and Martha. Before opening her piano school, she was able to travel extensively with her husband, seeing many wonderful places, experiencing different cultures and collecting many special artifacts she often shared with her family and friends. She had truly led a very active and meaningful life, contributing greatly to the community and touching everyone she met with her kindness, caring and incredible determination and energy. She was preceded in death by her mother, Josephine Postorino. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Robert Corbin; her father, Dominick A. Postorino of Westport, Connecticut; and her sister, Joann P. Washburn and her husband, Robert of Redding, Connecticut. She also leaves behind three nephews, Christopher, Jonathan and Bryan Washburn of Connecticut and Tennessee; as well as an aunt, Densie Chiarappa of Albuquerque, New Mexico. In addition, she leaves behind many close friends, students and their families who will all miss her beautiful spirit. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Sandra's memory to Senior Care Registry, P.O. Box 5945, Longview, TX 75608; or Heart'sWay Hospice of Northeast Texas, 1306 Pine Tree Rd., Longview, TX 75604. There will be no calling hours or memorial service at this time.
