Cox, Kenneth Wayne HENDERSON - Services for Kenneth Wayne Cox, 42, of Carthage, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2007, at Crawford-Crim-Bryan Funeral Home in Henderson. Burial will follow in the Strong Cemetery of Panola County. Mr. Cox died Monday, September 3, 2007, at Overton Brooks VA Hospital in Shreveport, La. Kenneth was born May 18, 1965, in Gladewater. A 1983 graduate of Gladewater High School, he was active in sports (winning many honors with the Bears) school musicals, FFA, choir and other organizations. He attended Kilgore Junior College, before entering the U.S. Navy in 1986, where he received the Outstanding Navy Recruit Medal. He served abroad the U.S.S. Wisconsin during Operation Desert Storm. Kenneth was a Catholic, and he was a former member of Friendship Baptist Church in Gladewater. He was preceded in death by his brother, John W. Cox Jr.; stepbrother, Tony Woodard; his grandparents, Johnnie and Faye Cox, formerly of Gilmer, and Loyce and Merlene Cannon, formerly of Gilmer; and mother-in-law, Marilyn Powell, formerly of Gladewater. Survivors include his wife of eight years, Su Layne Powell Cox of Carthage; and daughters, Jessica and Kayla Cox, who live with their mother, Lisa, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mr. Cox is also survived by his parents, John and Frances Cox of Gladewater, and Peggy and James Woodard of Bettie; father-in-law, James Powell of Gladewater; brothers, David Hanson of Chicago, Ill., and Gary W. Cox of Gladewater; stepbrothers, Connie Gale Woodard of Bristol, Tennessee, J.C. Woodard of Mineola, and Mitchell Woodard of Tyler; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
