Davis, William E. "Bill" Bill went home to his Lord on March 27, 2006, at the age of 81. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 30, 2006, in the chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, 1617 Judson Road, with Brother James Schaefer and Brother Noah Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday evening, March 29, 2006, at the funeral home. The family would like to express appreciation for the care given by Dr. John Griefenkamp, Dr. Jeff Shea, and the staff of Greater Hospice of Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in honor of Mr. Davis to Greater Hospice of Texas, 1905 W. Loop 281, Longview, TX 75604. Born December 23, 1924, in Sherman, Bill moved to Longview at age 6. He graduated from LHS in 1943, and served in the U.S. Air Force as a P38 photo recon pilot over the Pacific during World War II. Bill retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. after 40 years of distinguished service and perfect attendance, having worked in East Texas and Dallas. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved playing practical jokes. Bill also enjoyed playing golf, scoring two "hole-in-ones," and working in his shop.Bill is survived by his wife of 41 years, Melba; three children, Kay Harris of Kilgore, William E. Davis Jr. of Houston, and Debbie Moore and husband, David, of Grapevine; three step-children, Gloria Whitefield and husband, James, of Magnolia, Ark., Jimmy Woods and wife, Ginger, of Marshall, and Chuck Woods of Marshall; as well as 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren who he loved dearly.
