Fagan, Melvin Christopher Melvin C. Fagan was born in Longview and reared in Hallsville, where he attended school and graduated in 1984. While in high school, he achieved many awards, including Outstanding Sculpture, and National Achievement for Outstanding Negro Students. Melvin received a four-year scholarship to the University of Texas in Austin. Afterwards, he enlisted and served eight years in the United States Marine Corps. and achieved the rank of sergeant. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps., Melvin worked for Auto Zone for several years as store manager and became district manager, and later moved to Advance Auto, where he was store manager. In his spare time, Melvin coached several Longview leagues. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Fagan Sr. Survivors include his wife, DeAnn Fagan; son, Demarcus Fagan; mother, Annie Pearl Fagan; siblings, Virginia (Carvis) Key, Susan Stanley, Everett Fagan, Chad Fagan, Christine Davenport, and Sandra Key; nieces, Kenya Stanley, Tangie Williams, and Jontai (Barrie) Horne; nephews, Adarius (Trecy) Stanley, Demond Key, Dedric Stanley, Corey (Kim) Key, Adarius Davenport, Jahrod Key, Steveland Key, Benar Key, Kenye Fagan, and Thaddeus Fagan; a host of other relatives; and many friends.
