Guttry, Lala Sutherlin KILGORE -- Services for Lala Sutherlin Guttry, 99, of Kilgore, will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2007, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Kilgore with the Revs. Jerry Turner and Ernie Turnie officiating. Interment will follow in the Kilgore Cemetery. Mrs. Guttry was born July 18, 1907, in Grand Cane, Louisiana, to Agnes McDonald and John Arthur Sutherlin. In 1926, she married Carlos Byron Guttry and lived in Harmon, Louisiana, until July 1931, when they moved to Kilgore, Texas. As a member of St. Luke's Methodist Church and a charter member of the Susannah Wesley Sunday school class, she held several offices in the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday school. She was a member of Coterie and Au Courant Clubs in Kilgore and a board member and worker for Community Concerts. She was an employee of Daiches Jewelry and a dental assistant to Dr. W.R. Terrell of Kilgore and Drs. Wade Clendenen and W. D. Northcutt III of Longview. She was well known in Kilgore and Longview for her friendly personality and for the hundreds of loaves of bread she baked for shut-ins, friends and relatives. She is survived by a son and his wife, Dr. John S. and Lottie Guttry of Longview; a sister, Etoile Ailstock of Many, Louisiana; a brother and sister-in-law, John B. and Louise Nugent of West Palm Beach, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Mary Guttry of Carriere, Mississippi; two sisters-in-law, Tillie Nugent of Abilene, and Adele Nugent of La Mesa, California; grandchildren and spouses, Melinda and Patrick Barge of Longview, John D. Guttry of Summerfield, Florida, Dr. Robert and Shannon Guttry of Longview, Nancy and Errol Wayne Cronin of Picayune, Mississippi, Sarah and Eddie Holloway of Picayune, Mississippi, Anthony Guttry of Denham Springs, Louisiana and Carlos and Linda Guttry of Lake Charles, Louisiana; as well as a multitude of great- and great-great-grandchildren. Lala will be missed by her family and a large circle of friends. Mrs. Guttry is preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Byron Guttry; three brothers, Harrison Nugent, Paris Nugent and George Sutherlin; a sister-in-law, Pauline Sutherlin; and a stepson, Carlos Byron Guttry, Jr. The family expresses appreciation to the staff at Summer Meadows and to Tanya Williams, her caretaker, for their kindness and compassion. The family will receive friends Monday, February 12, 2007, from 5-7 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore. Memorials may be made to the St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 401 E.
