Glidden, Ellsworth "Moe" KILGORE - A memorial service for Ellsworth Chester Glidden, 79, of Hallsville, will be 1 p.m. Thursday, October 11, 2007, at the Salvation Army Church, 518 East Cotton Street, Longview, with Major John Queener officiating. Mr. Ellsworth passed away Friday, October 5, 2007, in Kilgore. Mr. Glidden was born August 5, 1928, in Moultonborough, New Hampshire, to William and Maude Glidden, deceased. He graduated from Meredith High School. Moe and his 12 brothers and sisters grew up on the family farm and worked in the family apple orchard. Moe was not a stranger to work, beginning at the age of 11, raking hay on the roads for the state of New Hampshire. After high school, Moe played semi-pro baseball and later went to work for Scott and Williams Manufacturing, where he was employed for 15 years. He later sold insurance. In 1973, he and his family moved to Texas, where he worked in the oilfield until he retired in 1990. Moe was a voracious reader and loved to play Scrabble. He always emphasized the importance of an education to his children and grandchildren for he believed that knowledge was the key to a rewarding life. He loved the time that he spent with his grandchildren and the special times that they could be outside together. Mr. Glidden is survived by his beloved wife, companion and caregiver, Sheila Utzman of Hallsville; a son and daughter-in-law, Shawn and Amy Glidden of Liberty City; five daughters and sons-in-law, Audra and William Eades of Kilgore, Windy and Ricky Pettiette of Gladewater, Frances Glidden, Carol Ann Glidden and Lorraine Glidden of New Hampshire; and 11 grandchildren. His parents, two brothers and 10 sisters preceded him in death. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kilgore Manor Activity Fund, 2700 South Henderson Blvd., Kilgore, TX 75662.
