Hansen, James L. Services for James L. Hansen, 83, of Longview, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2006, at the chapel of Rader Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Watson officiating. Burial will follow at Harris Chapel Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Visitation will be today from 6-8 p.m. Born August 22, 1922, in Frankfort, South Dakota, to James and Leda Hansen, Jim was a World War II veteran and retiree of Southwestern Bell and Sullivan Funeral Home. During his military service, he was given a field commission as a second lieutenant and received two Purple Hearts, the Distinguished Service Cross, the British Military Cross, a Bronze Star and the Victory Medal. His memoirs, "Memories of a Ground Pounder," may be seen at the Gregg County Historical Society Museum. He was also featured in the book, "Texans Touched by World War II." He was an active member of the Tallent Sunday school class at First Baptist Church for many years. "Grandpa Jim" delighted in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spent a lot of time cheering them on while attending their activities. Pallbearers will be Wayne Allred, Gary Fears, Mike Britt, Chris Casey, Max Hardin and Lynn Harris. Mr. Hansen was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elsie Taylor; and two brothers, Harvey Hansen and Ed Hansen. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Bonnie; three daughters, Charlotte Hansen, Becky Fears and her husband, Gary, and Judy Britt and her husband, Mike; son, Michael Hansen and his wife, Barbara; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ralph and Lois Hansen, and Clyde and Inez Hansen; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.
