Hampton, Elbert T. Funeral services for Elbert T. Hampton, 87, of Longview, will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2007, at Mobberly Baptist Church, with the Reverend Scott Schulik officiating. Burial will follow at 4:30 p.m. in Coax Cemetery of Winnsboro, La., under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Hampton was born September 23, 1919, in Winnsboro, La., to Thompson and Saline Hampton. He passed away on Monday morning, January 8, 2007, at a Longview nursing facility. He graduated from Winnsboro, La., before entering the service. He served his country proud during World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corp. Mr. Hampton served as an airplane mechanic and was deployed to Manila, Philippines. He was a part of the 27th Bomb Group and the 48th Materiel Squadron. Mr. Hampton was captured in December of 1941, on Bataan. He was in the Bataan Death March, and was a Japanese P.O.W. for three and a half years. He was transferred to Japan and remained there until they were liberated. Mr. Hampton also worked for Sun Oil Co. for 36 years. He was a 60 year Mason, and achieved the 32nd degree. He was also a Shriner and a member of Mobberly Baptist Church, where he was very active in small group Bible fellowship. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, Mr. Hampton was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Mary Hampton of Longview; children, Sybil Brumley of Oak Grove, La., and Dan L. Hampton and wife, Linda of Mobile, Ala.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Bolden of Oak Grove, La., Fred Brumley of Boston, Mass., Anthony Brumley of Oak Grove, La., Chrissy McNeil of Monroe, La., and Tim Hampton of Mobile, Ala.; 12 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial contributions can be made in honor of Mr. Hampton to Mobberly Baptist Church, "Growing for Tomorrow" Building Fund, 625 E. Loop 281, Longview, TX 75601.
