GREGG COUNTY - WYCHE CEMETERY Wilma Whitaker Holman was born September 10, 1914, in Gregg County, Texas, to Tyler and Ida Baxter Whitaker. She received her education from Greenville Community School in Longview; Greenville High School in Longview, where she was class valedictorian; Butler College in Tyler; Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, where she received a bachelor of science degree; Bishop College in Marshall; and a master's degree from Bishop College in Marshall in 1955. Wilma Whitaker was united in holy matrimony to Hubert Holman. Wilma was an active member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church, where she was involved in Sunday school, B.T.U., mission, senior choir and Bible school. She was also a deaconess, financial secretary and secretary of senior choir. Her memberships included Pastor's Aide, Food Committee, East Texas Baptist Association, Women's Auxiliary in Tyler and Longview District for many years as a lecturer. Mrs. Holman was an educator for 33 years, having taught at Harris Chapel in Rusk County; New Salem in Rusk County; and retired from Henderson Independent School District in 1978. She was a life member of Texas School Teachers Association; National Education Association; Classroom Teachers Association; American Association of Retired Persons and Matron, Order of Eastern Star, Lodge No. 36, Queen Ann Court in Henderson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tyler and Ida Baxter Whitaker; and siblings, Nanah, Omie, Odie, Ora T., Lola B., Eugene and Forrest. Burial will be in Wyche Cemetery of Longview, under the direction of Jenkins-Garmon Funeral Home in Henderson.
