Howle, Billy James Funeral services for Billy James "Pop" Howle, 76, of Longview, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at Welch Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Gene Ferrell officiating. Internment will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Billy was called to his heavenly home on October 13, 2007. Billy was born May 26, 1931, in Yantis, to Stessell and Fowler. He proudly served his country in the Second Infantry Indian Head Division of the U.S. Army. He saw action at Chosin Reservoir, Heartbreak Ridge, Bloody Ridge and numerous other battles. While in the service, he was chosen for the All Army Basketball Team. He was a fierce competitor and hated to lose at anything. Returning from Korea, Billy embarked on a 52-year career in the beef industry. He retired from Tyler Packing Co. at the age of 73. Billy was an avid sportsman and loved "his Longhorns and Cowboys." In his younger years, he loved deer hunting and horseback riding with his son, Scott. Billy married the love of his life, Juanita Brimer, on March 23, 1952. He always made sure that he told everyone "I love you, but I love my wife more." Billy was a colorful character with quite a sense of humor, but he loved his Lord and Savior and church more than anything. He was a founding and charter member of United Fellowship Baptist Church. He will be sorely missed by his family, his church family, his friends and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and best friend, Norris Howle; nephew, Brad Howle; stepmom, Kate Howle; brother-in-law, Denton White; and uncle, Conie Howle. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Juanita Howle; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Felicia Howle; daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Joe White of Lake Cherokee, and Staci and Jeb McNew of Cape Coral, Florida; grandchildren, Amanda and Shane Richardson, Meagan and Alex Avaltroni, Monica and Josh Wendt, Bo White and Kristin Fuller, Olivia, Jade, Dylan and Kena NcNew, Jon and Dollie Shirley, and Karl and Tara Hughes; and great-grandchildren, Luke and Ben Richardson, Ella Wendt, Cidni, Kolton and Mason Hughes and Halie Shirley and soon to be "Sam " Avaltroni. His surviving siblings include Marcine White, Dwayne and Patsy Howle, Wanda and Lamar Hawkins, Lee Howle, Eva and Billy Weems, Kathy Ellis, Grady Bob Cranfill, Dolores German and Aunt Pauline Howle. Billy also leaves a host of nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Ellie, that he loved very much. The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. this evening, October 16, 2007, at Welch Funeral Home, 4619 Judson Road.
