Hutchins, Aldredge Gene "Hutch" Aldredge Gene "Hutch" Hutchins, 68, was the son of the late Reginal "Red" and Hollie V. Hutchins, and the oldest brother of the late Clyde A. Hutchins. Gene was a longtime resident of Longview, having attended and graduated from Ned E. Williams School and Kilgore Junior college. Gene was a faithful and active member of Union Church of Christ from a very young age until his illness allowed him to no longer attend. For 28 years, Gene served Longview with pride and was well-respected in the community as a City of Longview Police Officer. Hutch was one of the first five black police officers in Longview. He was an active member of the Cuney Masonic Lodge in Lakeport, a member of the 1970s Hummingbird Quartet Group and the Jolly Fellows Club (which was a group that volunteered their services throughout the community and provided entertainment, activities and scholarships) during the early 1970s. Gene leaves to cherish all of his wonderful memories, one sister, Synthia Woolridge of Longview; a brother, Reno Hutchins of Concord, Calif.; and a sister-in-law, Velma Hutchins of Longview. He was married to Ann Hutchins of Longview for 19 years. To that union, two children were born, Darrell Hutchins and Audrey Elaine Hutchins Burton of Longview. He also raised one son, Edward "Bubba" and Bonnie DeVance of Omaha, Neb.; and one foster daughter, Sherdian DeVance and Adrain Woods of Longview. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Eric Hutchins Benson, Julius Hutchins, Morray Burton, Jordan Burton, Sydney Burton, Antwone Woods and Andrea Woods; great- grandchildren, Jayla Hutchins and Amaree Benson; four aunts, Julia Hutchins Earl of Richmond, Calif., Pauline Hutchins Stoker of Longview, Willie Mae Hutchins and Lonnie Craig of Longview, and Rochelle Hutchins and James Buggs of Pasadena, Calif.; one uncle, Hosea Lee and Obelia Hutchins of Longview; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is also survived by very special, devoted friends and neighbors whom he thought of as his children, Danny and Debra Ravens.
