Jackson, Charles Wesley DALLAS - Charlie, 99, slipped away into Heaven October 11, 2007, after an enjoyable lunch with his friends from Buckner Westminster Place in Longview, Texas. He left this world surrounded by friends to join his loved ones who have gone on before. He had lived in various Buckner facilities since 1991. He had been a Christian for 55 years and an active member of the Baptist Church. Many of those years, he was Sunday school superintendent and usher. He served on multiple committees, including chairman of pulpit committees. He took all of these seriously and served with his whole heart and energy. He was born January 28, 1908, in Charleston, Mo., to Jody and Maude Jackson, deceased. He was one of 10 children. He began farming with his father at 6 years of age. At that time, he was carrying a man's workload as he plowed with eight mules across. He left the farm at age 16 and moved to Evansville, Ind., to work on the Ford assembly line. He also worked in a furniture factory. At age 19, he moved to Houston, Texas, and began his career as a furniture salesman and then on to credit manager at Stower's Furniture Co. He also worked for Sinclair Refinery during World War II. After the war, he worked for Suniland Furniture Co. as a manager of their warehouses. He married Freddie Mae Rausheck March 15, 1930. He was preceded in death by his wife, Freddie Mae, and one grandson, Greg Smith of Houston, Texas. Survivors include two daughters and two sons-in-law, Bobbie and Budd Allen of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Gloria and Weldon McElreath of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas; three grandsons, Wayne McElreath of Plano, Texas, Russ McElreath of Frisco, Texas, and Randy Smith of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Spicker of Tucson, Ariz.; three sisters, Ella Moore and Frances Slaten of Charleston, Mo., and Evelyn Sanders of Sikeston, Mo.; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was one of a kind. We will all miss him. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. today, October 14, 2007, at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, October 15, 2007, at Restland Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Buckner Foundation, Senior Care Fund, 600 N.
